Department Description:

The Secure Sensor Solutions (S3) RF Mechanical Department located in El Segundo, CA is currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Aguadilla, PR team. The candidate will serve as an interconnect harness designer and developer for various proprietary programs within Raytheon Intelligence Systems (RIS). The section focuses on a multi-disciplinary team tasked to design, procure, assemble, test, and maintain effort of sets of interconnect solutions with primary focus on RF, digital power, fiber and flexible circuits. The Puerto Rico location is a growing and highly motivated team who consistently provides quality on-time on-cost solutions to support external and internal customers seeking innovative and economical solutions for their product lines.

Job Description:

The candidate must be familiar with connector, cable, wires parts and specifications for airborne systems. Must be familiar with interconnect industry standard IPC/WHMA-A-620 and manufacturing processes. The selected candidate must be able to perform detailed routing of cables in different airborne tactical or ground systems using Creo Cabling or similar software. Must be able to create wirelists, schematics and work alongside a cross-functional team of hardware engineers, while simultaneously developing innovative solutions to customer needs. The candidate will be expected to follow established procedures in creation of technical data package while working closely with program management, functional supervision, and integrated product teams (IPTs). The candidate must be highly motivated and “self-starter” able to lead by example, possessing a strong hardware architecture development background in both mechanical and RF designs.

The candidate will initially work from home using Raytheon assets to do their work assignments and to connect to the Raytheon proprietary network. Next year, the candidate will work on site at the Raytheon Technologies site near Aguadilla, Puerto Rico as the Raytheon Intelligence & Space team grows in Puerto Rico market. Since the position will require daily interactions with the California team and other mainland Raytheon sites, excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently and the ability to work with minimal direction are highly desired skills.

U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years professional experience in electromechanical designs

  • Strong background in mechanical and electrical engineering design

  • Experience in development, documentation, fabrication, assembly, and test/delivery of military electronic products

  • Familiar with interconnect technologies to include (but not limited to) RF, digital, power, fiber, and flexible circuits.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, including as a leader of small teams.

  • Shall be able to work to a budget and schedule and provide status.

  • Excellent interpersonal and multi-tasking skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills English & Spanish

  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

  • U.S Citizenship is required as the position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. DOD security clearance within 1 year of start date.

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Design experience with airborne AESAs and RF electronics

  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 industry standard or Wiring Aerospace Vehicle SAE-AS50881 Specification

  • Familiarity with Environmental Engineering Specification MIL-STD-810

  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI phenomena on interconnects and MIL-STD-461

  • CAD experience with Creo cabling module or similar

  • CPDM and Windchill experience

  • Experience with schematic development tools such as Mentor Capital

  • Experience with Formboard or routing tools development

  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS

  • Experience with proposal development

  • Experience with IPDS and related gate presentations

  • Work experience with a major interconnect supplier

  • Electronic Packaging previous experience

  • Thermal & Vibe analysis experience

  • Ability to travel at least quarter time to suppliers, customers, and other locations

    Required Education:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science STEM degree and at least 5 years of professional engineering experience. Or a Masters in Science STEM degree and at least 3 years of professional engineering experience.
