The Materials Engineering Department, which functions within the Mechanical Products Team (MPT), is seeking a Materials Engineer familiar with ceramics and high temperature materials to work at our Andover, MA facility. Materials Engineering charter is to leverage material and process expertise throughout Raytheon Missile & Defense. We are committed to excellence supporting our customers and allies worldwide.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
You will be responsible for supporting all phases of product life cycle (including design, development and production) on numerous programs. The analyses will cover a wide range of topics in ceramics and high temperature materials from material synthesis, material characterization, process issues, and failure analysis. The candidate will work directly with subject matter experts to solve challenging problems. The position requires the ability to work on several analyses in parallel, and to work with other department members with areas of expertise in materials, chemistry, metallurgy, coatings, and optics. This involves teaming with them to support your analysis and to support theirs in turn.
An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional 2 years of experience .
Ph.D. is equal to 5 years of experience.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) ( Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or Related Science or Engineering field)
Experience in ceramic processing and fabrication
Experience in materials characterization
Five (5) years of professional experience in ceramics or hold a Ph.D. degree in the aforementioned disciplines
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Value :
Experience and understanding of ceramic processing and fabrication
Experience and understanding of various materials characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, FTIR) & mechanical testing
Knowledge of materials optical properties & optical measurements
Understanding of thin films (PVD & CVD)
Experience using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience writing standard operating procedure or standard work instructions
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a diverse team
