Pratt & Whitney is planning to invest at least $650 million through 2027 in a world-class turbine airfoil production facility in Asheville, North Carolina. The new, 1,000,000-square-foot facility will house an advanced casting foundry for the production of turbine airfoils as well as conduct machining, coating and finishing of airfoils onsite. This state-of-the-art facility will also implement best-in-class manufacturing technologies and processes exemplifying industry 4.0 manufacturing principles and will complement existing turbine airfoil work that is done across Pratt & Whitney’s facilities.
The Asheville Materials organization is seeking a highly talented and motivated individual who enjoys operating in a dynamic, fast paced environment for a Materials Manager position that will meet the proactive and reactive challenges of supporting operations. The Materials Manager will be responsible for leading Asheville’s production planning and scheduling, MRP planning, shop floor control and delivery assurance.
This role will take an active role in manufacturing transformation initiatives and implementation of the Digital Technology strategy for this greenfield site. The Materials Manager will work across functions to design best-in-class processes to ensure successful material flow throughout the facility. As part of the growth and technology insertion in the Airfoil value stream, the Materials Manager will play a key role in the manufacturing automation strategy, material release strategy, handling methods, kitting strategy and material movement methods for all parts, non-product and tooling. Success will be measured through successfully developing strategies and executing goals to meet capacity requirements, inventory controls, cost reduction objectives, on time delivery, and control tower measures. The Materials Manager will provide leadership necessary to address continuous improvement, capture efficiencies, and increase productivity.
*This position will initially allow for remote work, with the expectation that the candidate will relocate to Asheville, NC in mid-2022. 10-25% travel to vendors and other PW facilities may be needed prior to Asheville site completion and equipment installation.

Develop/Support workforce hiring and training plans for the Materials organization. Responsible for evaluating, coaching, guiding and identifying learning opportunities to for direct team members.
Create and execute plan for every part, inclusive of parts, tooling & non-product.
Establish build plan/work schedules considering customer requirements, resource availability, and other priorities.
Drive operational execution, support / lead production meetings and support Site Materials Manager & Operations with ad-hoc initiatives / materials needs.
Create & implement key objectives for Asheville including on time starts, shortage management, lead time reductions, inventory initiatives & lean initiatives
Facilitate the capacity management process, including identification and escalation of long-term capacity gaps to ensure successful execution of customer demands
Communicate with both customers & vendors on status, expedites, lead time and capacity requirements, etc.
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years’ prior relevant experience; or an Advance Degree and 7+ years’ prior relevant experience; or equivalent prior relevant experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering preferred.
Excellent leadership, communication, problem solving, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to work with all levels of management and communicate effectively with peers, customers and vendors.
Success working in a high energy and fast paced manufacturing environment with the ability to adapt to changing business conditions
Demonstrated leadership skills with direct supervisory experience of a large scope
Knowledge and familiarity with SAP System transactions.
