Raytheon is seeking a Software Engineer for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Flight Operations Subsystem (FOS) to join our distinguished team to develop a state-of-the-art ground station for JWST FOS. The JWST is a large infrared (IR) space telescope designed to support scientific observation to enhance our understanding of the formation and evolution of galaxies, stars, and planetary systems.
This position is based in Aurora, Colorado. The engineer in this position will coordinate within the Aurora based integrated product team to provide support to the Space Telescope Science Institute Operations facility at John Hopkins University in Maryland. This position may require occasional travel.
What You'll Get to Do:
As a Software Engineer, you will be part of a development team which utilizes a diverse dynamic workforce, including many experts in their fields throughout the design, development and maintenance life cycle. On our ground system programs, you will work with teams of talented engineers to develop and improve advanced, large-scale suites of applications that manage complex space and ground systems.
As Software Engineer, you will be responsible to:
Develop SW baseline changes using Agile / DevOps
Help build and maintain DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines
Analyze, debug, and troubleshooting technical problems
W ork as an effective team member on an Integrated Product Team effort to achieve program success
Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones (cost/schedule)
Perform as the technical point of contact between the Raytheon development team and the Customer stakeholders, supporting regular as well as ad hoc technical meetings regarding the processing and disposition of discrepancies, concepts of operations, and alternate problem solutions
Adhere to accepted standards for development, including writing unit tests which provide a high percentage of code coverage, participating in peer code reviews, conducting design reviews , and generating test plans to ensure maximum stability and quality of code
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. citizen
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or other relevant technical discipline.
Experienced with Object Oriented Analysis (OOA) and Object Oriented Design (OOD)
A minimum of 2 years of experience using Java and C+
- Knowledge and understanding of software development life cycles
Must have experience working with source control tools such as GIT
Experience using agile software methodology (SCRUM preferred) and DevOps
Experience with continuous integration toolsets (Jenkins, Gitlab, TeamCity, etc.)
A minimum of 2 years working experience in software development on the Windows operating system
Work related experience with XML
Work related experience with Python or a different interpreted language
Software and system-level debugging experience including the ability to identify problems in established code and make modifications as necessary
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship with all levels of the organization
Excellent written and presentation skills
Ability to travel in order to support fielded command and control systems
It Would Be Great if You Also Had:
2 or more years experience working with the Raytheon ECLIPSE®, Equinox products or similar command and control and mission management systems
Experience integrating software modules
Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts
Kubernetes/container orchestration experience
Experience working with Docker containers
Experience working with micro services
Experience building and maintaining cloud resources in AWS/Azure
Experience developing and configuring monitoring and alerting solutions
Experience utilizing AWS/Azure CLI
Experience preparing and presenting status information and technical material
Experience with the Eclipse IDE
Completed Raytheon 6-sigma certification
Experience and knowledge related to Satellite Operations, Ground Systems and Ground System Operations
Experience and knowledge related to software discipline process development and deployment
Experience with customer interaction and end-user engagement
Software integration and system-level debugging experience
Experience preparing, statusing, and presenting detailed schedules, technical material and readiness review data both verbally and written
Ability to coordinate tasks, provide clear task status, address risk issues, and resolve issues across multiple groups
Familiarity with other engineering disciplines (systems, hardware, test, configuration management, and quality engineering) and how they interact with software engineering
