We are seeking an Interaction Designer with deep expertise in user-centered design methods to help create the next-generation of RTX applications, products and services. As a member of a collaborative, cross-functional team, you will help define the experience architecture of products and services, from critical conceptual models to detailed maps and wireframes. Your core responsibilities will be to understand the people and systems that surround our products and synthesize user perspectives and business needs into tangible artifacts that can be used by a variety of stakeholders.
Working collaboratively with customers, business stakeholders and your project team (e.g., product managers, project managers, strategists, researchers, product designers, data scientists and developers)
Designing and/or participating in primary (in-field) and secondary research activities with customers, employees and other relevant business stakeholders
Understanding complex business processes and audience constituencies
Creating high-quality artifacts that capture critical conceptual aspects of an experience, including personas, customer journey maps, service blueprints, application maps, task flow diagrams, wireframes, et al.
Presenting design work, articulating underlying motivations and supporting decisions through argument
Tight collaboration with product managers to help define, review and refine user stories and related project documentation
Tight collaboration with product designers to ensure visual designs and interactions stay well connected to user and business needs
Designing for reuse across products and RTX businesses
Participating in design critique sessions; both providing and responding to feedback on designs
Contributing representative artifacts and/or documentation to RTX design systems
Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor’s degree and five years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and three years of prior relevant experience
BA/BS degree in Design, HCI, CS, or related experience
Propensity for self-directed problem-solving and the ability to work with limited guidance
Extensive experience applying user-centered design processes and connecting business and user needs to design decisions
Experience designing, participating in and leveraging user research activities; ability to understand and gain fluency with complex problems and drive elegant solutions that address them
Deep systems thinking skills; fluency with conceptual considerations such as modularity, hierarchy, inheritance and flow
Ability to identify, articulate and leverage common design patterns and argue why they should or shouldn’t be used
Familiarity with concerns and constraints that inform product experiences (distinct from websites and other media)
Ability to create high-quality visual artifacts—diagrams, presentations, wireframes, et al.— that drive understanding between users, team members and project stakeholders
Experience using and working with component-based design systems
Mastery of digital design tools, such as Sketch, Adobe XD and Figma et al.
Fluency with simple prototyping tools, such as Invision, Figma, and experience with more advanced prototyping tools that offer richer interaction and animation capabilities, such as Principle or Framer.
Familiarity with agile methodologies, particularly as they pertain to design
Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills
Comfort collaborating with cross-functional teams (IRL and remote) and working under tight deadlines
