We are seeking a senior electrical engineer within the Ice, Rain & Stall (IRS) Engineering organization. IRS Engineering, as part of the broader Collins Engineering organization, serves the IRS Product Value Stream. IRS products include Ice Detectors, Ice Rate Sensors, Ice Protection Systems, Windshield Ice Protection / Heater Controllers, Angle of Attack Sensors, Stall Warning/Protection Systems, and Windshield Wipers Systems.

The senior electrical engineer will be responsible for the design, development, test, qualification, and certification of IRS products. The senior engineer will be a highly motivated self-starter who will be capable of leading a team of electrical engineers on a large project to meet the cost and schedule objectives. The senior engineer will be the primary customer contact on existing products and new designs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design for new products to ensure quality standards and functional objectives are met

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and products

  • Produces products according to specifications, using the most cost effective and efficient means

  • Participates in technical preparations for new product development and implementation to ensure new products meet the required specifications

  • Analyzes and evaluates new or improved electronic components

  • Completes drawing designs as required to create and manage the engineering change request and change order process

  • Interfaces with engineers, customers, vendors and other stakeholders on existing and potential engineering projects or products

  • Troubleshoots electrical devices to ensure that issues are resolved efficiently

  • Resolves technical problems on the production floor to improve yield, scrap and performance metrics

  • Understands circuit theory, analog and digital design, instrumentation, semiconductor devices, power supply design (low & high power) and solid-state devices

  • Requirements management including requirements generation, design and development, integration, verification, validation, and documentation for existing and new products

  • Leads small to medium electrical engineering team including outsource and offshore organizations

  • Develops and demonstrates a deep technical understanding of product families

  • Provides technical leadership of complex designs to customers, electrical engineering community and IRS Value Stream

  • Interfaces with internal cross-functional and cross-site team members

  • Coaches and mentors electrical engineering team

  • Provides estimations for new hardware pursuits and rework activities

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience working in the Aerospace industry

  • 5+ years’ design and test experience with RTCA DO-160 & MIL-STD-461

  • 5+ years’ experience with RTCA DO-254

  • 5+ years’ experience designing Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs)

  • Proficiency with Allegro and Cadence tools to design Schematics, Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), Circuit Cards Assemblies (CCAs) and associated drawings

  • 5+ years’ experience reviewing and/or writing product specifications and determining design requirements and scope of work

  • 5+ years’ experience of requirements management and design verification process

  • 5+ years’ experience in analog design, electromagnetic interference (EMI), lightning protection, power supply design, digital communications, qualification testing, high power electronics and PCB layout
