This position is for a Staff Software Engineer on the Advanced Systems team in the Military Avionics and Helicopters (MA&H) Advanced organization. The Advanced Systems team is a research and development group responsible for supporting the maturation of key emerging technologies and differentiators required to position Collins Aerospace for both current and future growth opportunities; supporting our military and their partners. This includes, but is not limited to, advancements in next generation Human Machine Interface (HMI), helmet worn displays, flight management systems, communications management and vehicle control, personal electronic devices, robust training and simulation environments, and cyber security.
The Software Engineer, based in Cedar Rapids IA, will work on the Advanced Integrated Framework technologies such as: Software Containers, Microservices, and Advanced Graphics. As an engineer supporting these technologies, you will be involved in design and integration of new technologies for Collins. A successful candidate should be able to communicate technical direction to internal stakeholders. The Advanced Team uses a variety of coding languages, most notably Python, C, C++ and experience with these languages will be required.
Design, demonstrate, and integration SW prototypes into quick prototype rigs
Work with SW architects and stakeholders to support development of technology roadmaps for future Advanced Integrated Framework
Develop and coordinate with other engineers on the team for integration on prototype rig
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience is required.
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a US DoD Security Clearance.
Experience using Python, C, C++ coding languages
Experience with design, requirements capture, development, and integration of complex military avionics software systems and hardware solutions is required.
Experience with avionics development processes such as DO-178.
Experience with systems/software modeling languages (SysML, UML, AADL, or equivalent).
Experience with visual modeling and design tools (Enterprise Architect or equivalent).
Experience with DoD open systems architecture and protocols (FACE, JCA, HOST, etc) is preferred.
