The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will evaluate manufacturing processes and technologies, tooling philosophies, and inspection methodologies to suggest improvements for sheet metal fabrication, composites, and assembly of nacelles. The engineer will support Operations sites across ASG by providing technical support in order to improve quality and production processes and participating in other continuous improvement efforts. The engineer will validate and improve manufacturability/producibility of new and existing products and implement manufacturing process improvements to reduce costs and cycle times. This position allows you to utilize your knowledge and experience of tooling and manufacturing methods and techniques. The engineer will evaluate, develop, and organize manufacturing plans, procedures and requirements for new product introduction (NPI) and provide feedback to program and design engineers as well as assist in the manufacturing readiness of the manufacturing site receiving the new products. The engineer will have the opportunity to design and review designs for various tools and fixtures to support manufacturing and assembly across Operations sites. This position will work directly with multiple engineering disciplines (Manufacturing, Design, Quality, Stress, etc.), multiple Operations sites, and Programs.
Uses data analytics / SPC for productivity, First Pass Yield, and OEE targets and improvement.
Liaison with Design Engineering for producibility improvement / design changes. Understands product designs and can identify / suggest changes.
Improve manufacturing processes / products to achieve producibility (managing tool orders, shop aid design, etc.).
Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during fabrication.
Drive problem solving initiatives and challenge status quo (C/A Investigations, OEE, FPY, Customer Escapes).
Ability to read and interpret specifications and engineering drawings / models.
Ability to multitask, problem solve, and work in a dynamic environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong Mechanical / Manufacturing aptitude with basic understanding of Robotics / Automation and Project Management.
Basic understanding of assembly, machining, and composite manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of CAD / CAM systems, CATIA V5 MBD, or similar experience preferred.
Must be a US Citizen in support of ITAR requirements.
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
