The Associate Director of Automation is responsible for establishing a formal system within the Pratt & Whitney manufacturing site located in Asheville, NC to deliver measurable manufacturing results through formal strategy formulation and execution of robotics and automation. To achieve this end, the associate director in this role will lead a team of people to develop and execute manufacturing methods, identify of optimization opportunities by establishing clear criteria and world class objective measurement system of potential for automation, gap analysis of the enterprise to the criteria, and overseeing the execution of gap closure.

This person will be managing project workflow related to the area of automating and digitizing and modernizing manufacturing processes. The associate director will also have strong matrix responsibility with manufacturing engineering leads, capital managers, ACE and quality leads within the site, and other cross-functional groups required to deliver on the plan.

In executing the plan, this team will also be responsible for establishing site standards and specifications in the pursuit of standardization of controls, robotics and automation / connected enterprise-wide to enable substantial efficiencies in deployment, lessons learned, best practices, resource sharing and continuous improvement throughout the business. The role will require significant strategy and execution synthesis of presentation to Sr. Leadership of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

-Take leadership during the entire life cycle of automation projects, from concept to feasibility and from fabrication and test to production

-Define, develop and deploy automation into the site. Design the layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency and safety

-Design and engineer moderate and complex automation equipment, tooling and applications

-Prepare RFQ’s and solicit quotations from automation suppliers

-Evaluate supplier quotations to determine the best combination of technical solution, cost and timing

-Develop budget and schedule for projects and manage projects to stay within them

-Conduct equipment design reviews and provide design guidance to suppliers and provide status reports as per established schedule

-Provide on-site support during machine build, debug and testing/qualification

-Supervise installation and testing to verify requirements and specifications are met

-Develop manufacturing solutions with the best combination of manual, semi-automation and/or full automation

-Support new product development automation needs, facilitate assembly processes through the implementation of assembly cells and automated equipment at NPI stage and ensure meeting development timeline

-Prepare and maintain documentation related to the operation of the automation equipment

This position will initially allow for remote work, with opportunity to transition to Asheville, North Carolina in a leadership position on site.

Basic Qualifications:-This position requires a High school diploma 18+ years of experience, Associates degree 15+ years of experience, Bachelor’s degree 8+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience

-Ability to travel 30%

-US Citizenship is required due to government contract

Preferred Qualifications:

-Ability to demonstrate expert functional, technical and people and/or process management skills as well as customer (external and internal) relationship skills

-Ability to quickly analyze cost and work up the financial justification for automating

-Ability to present information to top management
