The Technology & Engineering organization is comprised of the global engineering function, several focused centers of expertise, and our advanced Research & Development Facility – the Research Center. The Postdoctoral program is of limited length (1-2 years in duration). The postdoc will build expertise and experience and make valuable professional connections in an industrial research and development environment. At RTRC, we have active collaborations with top universities, and we strongly encourage participation in top-tier conferences like CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI. We also have several externally funded research projects and we encourage and support our staff to seek internal and external funding to develop multidisciplinary approaches to high-impact real world problems.
Job DescriptionSeeking a motivated and curious candidate for a Computer Vision Postdoc position in the Advanced Learning and Analytics team, part of the Aerothermal and Intelligent Systems Department at Raytheon Technologies Research Center.
The Advanced Learning and Analytics team researches and develops machine learning (ML), computer vision (CV), natural language processing and human computer interaction solutions for a variety of high impact real world problems in the aerospace, manufacturing and defense industries. We research and develop CV approaches for applications like autonomous flight, automated visual inspection of parts and robotic perception. We conduct basic and applied research in a stimulating multi-disciplinary environment where scientists, engineers, practitioners and subject matter experts collaborate and exchange experience.
Roles & Responsibilities
Research and develop novel Computer Vision solutions and implement them.
Collaborate with researchers from multiple disciplines to understand and tackle a variety of real-world problems.
Communicate research findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
Where possible, participate and publish in top-tier conferences.
Where possible, seek funding to start your own research directions.
We’re looking for a highly motivated candidate eager to use and extend state of the art CV approaches.
A strong candidate:
Has solid hands-on experience with state-of-the-art ML approaches, especially in computer vision and deep learning.
Can research, design and implement novel ML approaches for multi-modal data.
Demonstrates the potential to initiate and execute funding opportunities through internal and external R&D.
Can stay abreast of the latest developments in the field and champion new ideas and problem definitions.
Hands-on experience in ML techniques, algorithms, off-the-shelf packages, such as Open CV, SciKitLearn and tensor flow, and development environments.
Expertise with scientific programming in python.
Ability to understand the details of an engineering problem statement, formulate it as an ML problem and identify candidate ML approaches.
Ability to work with 3D CAD models, familiarity with rendering processes/software, and understanding of basics of nonlinear optimization.
Experience with GPUs and multi-threaded programming for parallelization.
Strong mathematical background in statistics and linear algebra
Required EducationCandidates for this position are required to have recently completed a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
