The Pratt and Whitney Metrology team seeks to implement CMM and automated inspection technology in a new site in Asheville, North Carolina. The job will consist of CMM programming, working with Programming Contractors and OEMs of Measurement Equipment, and integration of Inspections into a highly automated manufacturing system. This position may begin as work-from-home, or East Hartford Connecticut based work, as the new Asheville, North Carolina facility is completed and brought into production. Occasional work related toother PW locations worldwide may be requested.

This is a very exciting opportunity for someone looking to literally get in on the ground floor of a new facility and to have an impact across the entire Pratt and Whitney organization.

*This position will initially allow for remote work with the expectation that the candidate will relocate to Asheville, NC upon facility completion.

*Facility completion is currently expected mid-2022. Relocation assistance will be provided.Key Responsibilities:

  • Programming CMMs, writing analysis scripts for CMM and non-contact inspection devices, especially for closed-loop machining environments.

  • Occasional direct measurements of artifacts/parts in the Metrology Lab.

  • Coordination with local procurement and facilities teams when contracting CMM services, making capital purchases, etc.

  • Development of production-ready solutions using newer sensor technology on complex geometries.

  • Integration of automated measurement & test equipment with highly automated manufacturing cell and information systems

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 10 years of metrology experience OR an

  • Advanced Degree and minimum 6 years metrology experience.

  • Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.

  • 9+ years of CMM Programming Experience

  • US Citizenship required due to certain government contracts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of metrology experience

  • Aerospace industry experience

  • Specific skills include a mix of : MODUS, PC-DMIS and/or CALYPSO CMM language, analysis software such as GOM, POLYWORKS and/or GEOMAGIC, and other helpful software such as PYTHON, R-STUDIO, MINITAB, NX.

  • Familiarity with writing technical requirements documents for capital purchases and technical services

  • Familiarity with REVO Multi-sensor technologies is a big plus.

  • Knowledge of GD&T per ASMEY14.5, calibration systems per ANSIZ540.3, airfoil geometry

  • Measurement system evaluation (gage R&R, methodology review, correlation studies, etc) in support of Manufacturing Readiness Levels, PPAP, and Process Control

  • Knowledge of automation, robotic integration, RFID system, a plus

  • Must be comfortable working in a shop environment and presenting in technical meetings.

  • Expect occasional travel, especially to benchmark and work with other PW Sites, up to 10%
