The Materials & Processes Engineering (MPE) Organic Matrix Composites group is seeking a Polymer Matrix Composites Engineer. The engineer will work in a cohesive interdisciplinary team environment and will be responsible for evaluating and developing non-metallic materials and processes with a focus on polymer matrix composites for jet engine applications. The engineer will work with internal and external customers to define requirements, provide expert consultation, plan and execute tests, analyze results, author technical reports, and create and revise polymer composites and polymeric material and processes specifications. Additional work responsibilities will include providing support in the transition of material and processes to production, providing manufacturing processing expertise to troubleshoot and solve technical problems, and providing support for continuous improvement activities. The successful candidate must have a broad knowledge of polymer matrix composites, structural adhesives and manufacturing processes, and their impact on performance and durability. The successful candidate must have experience working with lab equipment and testing instruments, and be able to function effectively in both a lab and a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of elastomers is a plus. The successful candidate must be adept at problem solving, have very strong analytical skills and be a self-starter with an exceptionally high level of motivation and independence. The successful candidate must have exceptional organizational, teaming and communication skills.
Basic Qualifications:- BS or Advanced degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Aerospace Materials and Structural Engineering, or related field- 5+ years of aerospace polymer composites and structural adhesives industrial experience with a BS degree, or 3+ years with a MS degree, or 0-3 years with a PhD degree- Broad knowledge and experience with aerospace polymer matrix composites and structural adhesive materials and manufacturing processes- US citizen due to program requirements- Ability to obtain DOD security clearance
Preferred Qualifications- MS or PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Aerospace Materials and Structural Engineering, or related field- Deep knowledge and experience with aerospace polymer matrix composites and structural adhesive materials and manufacturing processes- Experience with aerospace elastomer materials
