Compression Systems Engineering seeks a motivated, detail-oriented mechanical engineer to join the Fan/LPC Structures team as part of the UTCR e-Empower Program. Working on inter-disciplinary teams, the selected candidates will perform structural assessments of compressor turbomachinery hardware including a vast and challenging array of parts such as integrally bladed rotors, cases and structural frames, blades, stators and kinematic systems. The skill to build and evaluate detailed models is required. The capability to interpret analysis results for accuracy and propose alternate configurations to resolve design issues are key elements of this position. The candidate will be responsible for design analysis, discipline and product reviews, production support, Class 1 and 2 engineering changes, FMEAs, RCCA, and job documentation. Qualified candidates must have a strong background in structural mechanics with an emphasis in vibrations, fatigue and fracture mechanics.
Key job functions:
Provide technical support through preliminary/detailed design, development, validation, certification, manufacturing, and operational service.
Apply state-of-the-art finite element based methods to the analysis and design of engine components and assemblies for rotating and stationary structures.
Provide technical direction based on structural evaluations that may involve consideration of strength, buckling, deflections, vibrations, fatigue life, damage tolerance and/or any other appropriate criterion.
Prescribe instrumentation requirements for structural and engine tests, monitor and troubleshoot test execution, prepare assessments of results including correlation to analytical and/or numerical calculations.
Provide production or field problems support and recommend solutions.
Prepare and deliver presentation materials to internal management and to airframe or government customers/regulators in formal design reviews and other settings.
Coordinate with others to advance technology and improve engineering processes and methods.
Bachelor degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required
Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
U.S Citizenship Required
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in finite element modeling and analysis of geometrically complex components and assemblies.
Focus on results and the ability to drive tasks to completion.
Demonstrated effectiveness in working across functions, organizations and all levels of management.
Working knowledge of continuous improvement principles
