Raytheon Technologies Mechanical Engineering -Thermal Analyst - Manager III in El Segundo, California
Raytheon Intelligence & Space's Secure Sensor Solutions Radio Frequency (RF) Mechanical Department is currently seeking a Senior Thermal Analyst and Front-Line Leader (FLL).
This Front-Line Leader is responsible for working alongside and leading a highly motivated group of 12-14 Thermal Analysts working on a variety of development and sustainment tasks for the RF Mechanical Department. The primary role is thermal analysis, technical direction and program guidance on critical programs for RF sub-systems. The senior leader must be familiar and proficient in thermal analysis from the system level down to and including component level. They must also be familiar with conduction cooled, liquid cooled and air cooled hardware. They must be able to perform simple, classical hand analyses along with detailed analyses requiring the use of finite element software. The FLL is also responsible for all managerial aspects of the section including: Providing adequate staffing/skill-sets for programs and proposals, staff performance and career development & training, support to tool/process development & deployment, administration of performance appraisals, merit increases and providing open and honest feedback to section personnel. This role is 75% hands-on technical contribution to programs and 25% functional team leadership.
The FLL shall be a highly motivated “self-starter” able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and maintain positive relationships & satisfaction with Programs leadership (Engineering and Program Management). The FLL will be responsible and accountable for the work products produced within the section and ensure the team demonstrates the same accountability. Responsibility for the Quality, Timeliness, Completeness and Efficiency (QTCE) of these work products and monitoring/improving QTCE through metrics and process improvements is also required. As such, the FLL will be directly engaged on Programs at various levels according to the participation level and experience of his/her direct reports.
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, Math or Physics
Ten (10) years of professional experience in thermal management solutions
Ability to perform conceptual and detailed thermal analysis of Antennas, RF products/sub-systems, EO Sensors, and Electronic components / devices for application in ground-based, airborne and maritime defense. Responsibilities include the analysis of thermal systems, air- and fluid-flow systems, and air- or liquid-cooled electronic enclosures.
Familiarity with commercial analysis codes including SINDA, ICEPAK, Siemens NX, STAR CCM+ and network modelers such as MasterFlow and Macroflow.
Experience with hand-calculations for thermal analysis or using Excel, Matlab, TK Solver to obtain preliminary solutions in a timely and efficient manner
Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to discuss technical material with others
Excellent interpersonal and organization skills
Ability to solve difficult problems by applying basic scientific principles, theories and concepts
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance within one year of employment.
