Raytheon Technologies Principal Automation Systems Engineer in El Segundo, California
The Raytheon Intelligence & Space (RIS) Advanced Manufacturing, Modernization, and Technology (AMMT) team is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative team member to take on the role of Automation Systems Engineer in support of RIS Factories.
The Automation Systems Engineer will be responsible for the definition of Factory Automation Systems architecture, development of concepts of operations, design, development and decomposition of hardware and software requirements. Candidate will also support the verification and validation of these systems via design, development and implementation of testing methods. Provides team with parameters for Acceptance Testing of Electro-Mechanical & Software automation systems and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in systems, testing procedures or new testing requirements. The Automation Systems Engineer will perform these functions using a variety of methods and enabling technologies/techniques, including Agile product development. The Automation Systems Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge on automation technologies and Industry 4/Smart Factory concepts as they relate to current/future projects.
The Automation Systems Engineer will work for the RIS Automation FEOTB & Mechatronics Section Manager, and will collaborate with Program/Mission Area, Factory leadership and IPTs, and other cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate envisions and incorporates advanced Smart Factory/Industry 4.0 technologies as well as identify opportunities for process improvements via lean techniques while architecting solutions and developing systems requirements.
The position will be networked across RIS factories, which includes locations in El Segundo (CA), McKinney (TX), Forest (MS), Santa Barbara County (CA), and Largo (FL), in addition to operations and automation systems engineers from other Raytheon Technologies business units.
Required Skills:
8+ years of demonstrated engineering experience with proven track record working with in one or more of the following domains: requirements analysis and development; system performance analysis; system integration, validation and verification; and subsystem or system architecture development
Experience in systems engineering functions including: concept of operations development, requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control
Experience effectively communicating and presenting with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team
Strong organization, coordination, planning and teaming skills
Working knowledge of Systems Engineering processes and procedures
Experience supporting engineering teams in a multi-discipline environment
Knowledge of and experience working with requirements management tools
Experience conducting system integration and system test to include development of integration and test plans, test cases and procedures.
Familiarity with gate reviews (particularly associated with SRR, PDR and CDR)
Ability to visualize system functionality, to create block diagrams, and to analyze system performance
4+ years professional engineering experience in a product build or manufacturing environment
Sense of business urgency and drive
Ability to prioritize during conflicting goals
Time & task management skills
Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
Must be a U.S. Citizen as the position will require the ability to access U.S. only data systems

Desired Skills:
4+ years professional engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (i.e,production, sustainment and/or full program lifecycle)
Experience in automation design, development, deployment, validation and/or sustainment in a factory setting.
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) , creating SysML based models or other MBSE toolsets and processes
Experience in Operations including: procedure development, training, transition to producton, installation, and deployment
Experience with automation systems and/or programming environments (robots, vision systems, PLCs, etc.)
Experience with process integration and electromechanical / mechatronic systems
Project management experience
Ability to perform trade studies to optimize system performance
Experience working in an Agile development environment as a Product Owner and/or SCRUM Master
Understanding of software & hardware life cycle and development processes
Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired
Understanding of Lean principles and terminology and/or six sigma black belt or equivalent
Familiarity with Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory concepts, Digital Manufacturing Simulation
Understanding of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), ISA (International Society of Automation) 95 architectures.
Strong interpersonal communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills with the ability to interact positively and collaboratively with others at all levels of the organization
Demonstrated ability to develop business cases and Return on Investment analyses
Ability to obtain an SSBI clearance, or candidate holds active SSBI.
