Raytheon Technologies Senior Mechanical Engineer in El Segundo, California

Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to support multiple space programs in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will perform manufacturing and mechanical related tasks for the program and is expected to work with a team of specialized junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers to support the build and test of EO/IR hardware designs. Responsibilities include creating and/or revising assembly instructions, providing build support in conjunction with technicians and other engineering disciplines, as well as design for producibility and manufacturability. Tasks also include the ability to revise and update engineering drawings and CAD models, participate in tooling/fixture design as required, as well as support Root Cause and Corrective Action tasks.

The candidate will be expected to present his or her work for peer reviews. Candidate will be expected to follow established procedures and instructions while working closely with program / functional supervision to ensure the overall design objectives are met. Contacts are primarily with the immediate section manager, team lead, project leaders and other personnel (peers) within the applicable program.

Required Skills:

• Minimum of 6 years in manufacturing or mechanical engineering and product support and a Mechanical Engineering degree

• Experience with electro-optical and electro-mechanical program manufacturing operations and processes

• Knowledge of DFMA principles

• Knowledge of modern machining techniques

• Experience in the design and/or assembly, integration and test of flight hardware

• Working knowledge of commercial CAD software, such as Creo, Solidworks, or Unigraphics and design experience

• Proficient in GD&T and Tolerance analysis for designs/drawings

• Possess strong written and oral communication skills

• Experience with M/S Office Tools i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio

• US Citizenship

• Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance

Desired Skills:

• Proven Space hardware experience

• Experience in the design and/or build of electro-optical hardware

• Experience leading an engineering team

• Expertise of MIL-STD-31000 and ASME standards

• Ability to read and create if necessary detailed engineering drawings and specifications, including understanding of GD&T

• Environmental test experience

• Knowledge of Windchill

• Understanding of Change Management, and processing Engineering Changes in a Product Data Management Tool

• Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace

Required Education:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university.
