Raytheon Technologies Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer for Receivers and Power Products in El Segundo, California

The Secure Sensor Solutions RF Mechanical Department is currently seeking a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer for the Receivers and Power Products Section in El Segundo, Ca.

The person in this position will be involved in electronics packaging design and project management for Airborne Radar Subsystems including Antenna, Receiver, Exciter, Processor and Power Supply subsystems. Tasks will include mechanical engineering throughout the hardware life cycle, including concept development, preliminary and detail design, transition to production, production support and installation. Designs will be for tactical airborne defense environment based sensor systems including ground-based, shipboard, airborne, and space sensors. Typical technologies include high density printed wiring board assemblies, electronic enclosures, thermal heat exchangers, machined components, RF microwave assemblies, and power converter units, all with challenging design constraints including Size, Weight, Power and design to Cost.

The candidate will provide technical leadership on major programs and interface with program offices and customers to support technical interchanges, proposals, design reviews and other engineering reviews. The candidate will frequently lead teams through the design development and will be expected to ensure that the established procedures are followed in the creation of technical data packages while meeting all program design objectives. This position will also include project management tasks such as tracking budget and schedule performance.

Candidate should possess the desire to grow and perform as a specialized engineer focused on system electronic packaging. The candidate will be required to work from requirements to develop unit design concepts and perform design trades. The candidate will be required to complete detailed layouts and design documentation using Computer Aided Design tools. They will also be required to provide support to suppliers who are fabricating the unit components and assemblies.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 10 years’ professional experience

  • Hands on experience with mechanical design, development, documentation, fabrication, assembly and test/delivery of military electronic products

  • Broad based hardware engineering background.

  • Excellent Interpersonal and Multi-tasking Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with program cost and schedule monitoring and reporting

  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:

  • 5 + years experience in Task Management or other Lead role on Large Development jobs

  • Experience as an IPT or CPT Lead

  • EVMS Certified and professional exposure to EVMS or similar budget tracking system

  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace

  • Antenna Mechanical Design Experience

  • Possess an active security clearance

Required Education (including Major):

  • A Bachelor's degree is required. A STEM degree (Mechanical Engineering) is typically required. Advanced degrees are preferred.
