Raytheon Technologies Senior Principal Secure Systems Engineer and Section Manager in El Segundo, California

The Systems Engineering (SE) Center is seeking a recognized technical subject matter expert and leader committed to creating innovative and cost-effective system security solutions.

The Senior Principal Secure Systems Engineer and Section Manager will exhibit a high degree of creativity and ingenuity, and will be responsible for architecting, designing and developing advanced systems leveraging security integrity and cyber security guidelines and concepts.

This position will also lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team of Chief Engineers in the technical development of the Secure System security solutions within the Secure Sensors Solutions and Space Secure Systems Department. The position requires subject matter expertise and experience in secure systems, such as anti-tamper, cyber security, cryptography, or software assurance. This is a high-growth technical area and the candidate must be a self-starter that enjoys collaboration and pursuing innovative, practical solutions.

This position also provides technical guidance and mentoring for their team members and is also accountable to programs that their employees support ensuring that the work products are of the highest quality and meet the program objectives. The candidate must be strong technically, a leader and a subject matter expert in this field.

This position reports directly to the Department Manager, and will partner with the Department Manager in the execution of the Center’s objectives and engineering goals.



  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive technical (hands-on) experience related to Systems/Software Engineering architecture, requirements, determination, development, and implementation

  • Extensive hands-on experience designing, implementing, testing, and fielding real-time embedded security-oriented solutions on Department of Defense (DoD) programs.

  • Knowledge of security standards, methods, and policies; risk and threat analysis; and technical safeguards.

  • Experience with design/development/implementation in at least one of the following areas: Anti-Tamper (HW, SW, Systems), Cybersecurity, Software Assurance

  • Experience leading engineering development teams and personnel

  • Ability to interact with customers to define requirements, solutions, trades, costs, implementation, system impacts, and effectiveness.

  • Develop top-level system requirements, and flow down requirements and implementation concepts to subsystems

  • Experience with direct interfaces with respect to customer representatives and external suppliers

  • Experience with commercial-off-the-shelf security technologies and trusted products.

  • Experience in using tools and metrics in managing activities

  • Experience managing (cost and schedule) systems engineering product teams within a program and earned-value management

  • Familiarity with sizing engineering efforts and bidding program pursuits

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • ACTIVE Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain additional program-level special clearances

  • U.S. Citizen as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems

  • Experience performing functional management activities including staffing, staff development, conducting performance reviews and career discussions, participating in compensation discussions, and flowing communications/information from higher levels down to section members

  • Background in both Systems Engineering and Software Engineering practices

  • Experience in System Integrity, Intel Community Agency Security design, or related field

  • Experience with certification and accreditation of cryptographic, anti-tamper, and other security-related engineering products / systems

  • Experience with multi-level security solutions

  • Demonstrated organization, coordination, planning and teaming skills

  • High degree of technical writing experience, in developing domain focused white papers, trade studies, and technical/policy documents in support of initiatives, programs and proposals.

  • Knowledge of reverse engineering principles and methods

  • Knowledge of Program Protection Plan (PPP) required by DoDI 5000.02 and DoDI 5200.39, including in-depth understanding of balancing risk across the System Security Engineering discipline and domain areas.

  • Experience with DOORs

  • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level III compliant certification


B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics; Advanced degree(s) preferred
