Raytheon Technologies Senior Thermal Engineer II in El Segundo, California

Raytheon Intelligence and Space is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer I to support multiple space programs in El Segundo, CA.

The successful candidate in the Senior Mechanical Engineer I role will conduct thermal analysis for space flight missions as well as for IRAD/CRAD space programs. This individual will typically perform analysis tasks under the supervision of senior engineering analysts and will often work within a larger design/analysis team. Analysis tasks will typically be focused on EO/IR or RF hardware designs and may include the evaluation of orbital conditions, sizing heaters, straps, and isolators, and performing STOP analysis. More advanced analysis techniques will be learned as required. Analysis support will be provided through all phase of the program life-cycle, from proposal, to conceptual design/requirements derivation, to PDR/CDR, and build/test/delivery.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer I will work to influence the efficiency and suitability of the thermal design and may support internal design reviews.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of six years of experience with thermal analysis or four years with an MS in Mechanical

  • Engineering or similar

  • Ability to solve problems by applying basic scientific principles, theories and concepts

  • Familiarity with commercial Finite Element Analysis codes, preferably Thermal Desktop, NX, TMG, or similar will be considered

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to discuss technical material with others

  • Experience with using hand-calculations for thermal analysis using Excel, Matlab, TK Solver, or other

  • Ability to solve problems by applying basic scientific

  • principles, theories and concepts

  • The Thermal Analyst is responsible for detailed thermal analysis to support all phases of programs including development and production.

  • The analyses will cover a wide range of difficult problems, requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.

  • The analysis tasks will span the spectrum from classical hand analyses to detailed analyses requiring the use of finite element analysis software.

  • As a Thermal Analyst, you will work under general direction and will be expected to define the scope and level of analysis required to meet required objectives and will be held accountable for completing the work within the agreed upon cost and schedule.

  • Additionally, you will be expected to present their work for peer reviews and to be a peer reviewer for other engineers’ work.

  • The customers of this position will include internal personnel and programs as well as external Government(s) personnel and programs.

  • You will work with the customer and engineering leadership to define testing required to validate Thermal analyses and to verify that hardware is compliant with requirements.

  • The Analyst is expected to plan and support tests, perform data reduction and engage in Thermal model correlation.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required as this person must have the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

    Desired Skills:

  • Experience in planning, preparation, and execution of TVAC test

  • Knowledge of commercial CAD software, such as Pro/E or similar

  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications

  • Possess an active security clearance

    Required Education:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university

  • Desired Education:

  • MS or PhD in related field from an accredited university

    This position may offer a sign-on bonus up to $10K.
