Raytheon Technologies Sr. Engineer - Failure Analysis in El Segundo, California

The Failure Analysis Lab in El Segundo CA is looking for a failure analyst familiar with the forensic tools necessary to solve complex engineering issues from electronic, mechanical, chemical or material. Specific responsibilities include testing and troubleshooting products at the component and assembly level, deprocessing and analysis of components and assemblies for internal analysis, theoretical knowledge of various analytical tools including electrical test equipment, optical microscopes, real-time x-ray, scanning electron microscopes, chemical analysis equipment and other testing and analysis tools. The preparation of formal analysis reports will be required. Good interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills are essential. Applicant will work with a team of other Raytheon engineers, technicians and subject matter experts of various engineering disciplines to resolve failures and manufacturing issues.
Key Responsibilities for the qualified candidate include:
The candidate is expected to work on his or her own analyses with minimal direction and oversight. The candidate will be required to multi-task and prioritize work to meet schedule and cost needs. The candidate will work independently to solve problems and communicate solutions to both co-workers and program customers. Candidate will work directly with customers to collect background history and details leading to component failure, perform non-destructive and formulate plan to destructively confirm hypothesis leading to root cause. Duties include the presentation of analysis results to Raytheon’s program personnel, component manufacturers, and customers.
Minimum 3 to 6 years of experience in a failure analysis or similar analytical lab (dependent on job grade).
At least 3- 6 years of experience associated with failure assessment, planning, and resolution.
Must be able to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the electrical engineering.
Strong knowledge spanning multiple fields (analog, digital, RF, signal processing, etc.) to support a variety of analyses.
Experience with various electrical lab equipment (curve tracers, power meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, signal generators, network analyzers, etc.).
Knowledge of analytical tools such as optical microscopes, real-time X-ray, Scanning Electron Microscopes, Focused Ion Beam, 3-D computed tomography x-ray, Scanning Acoustic Microscopy.
Experience with micro sectioning, parallel polishing, and chemical deprocessing of electronic and mechanical materials.
Ability to independently author technical reports and deliver presentations (verbal and/or written) to key stakeholders.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Good understanding of drawings, electrical schematics, and relevant industry standards.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes, such as plating, PWB assembly, IC and hybrid assembly.
General knowledge of other related disciplines such as material analysis.
Familiarity with military and industry standards, performance specifications, and component related documents.
Ability to complete analysis work using problem solving skills and perform in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to work independently.
Strong customer interaction skills with engineers of all levels.
Self-motivated, proactive and able to multi-task.
Demonstrated leadership experience through school or extracurricular projects.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or material science engineering and 3-6 years of experience in electrical test and analysis lab.
BA in Electronics Engineering with 8 years of experience in Failure Analysis test lab.
Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering with relevant job experience is a plus.
