Raytheon Technologies Sr Multi-Disciplined Eng I - Contamination Control Engineer in El Segundo, California

Raytheon seeks qualified Contamination Control Engineers for the Materials and Process Engineering Department. A successful candidate will thoroughly understand program requirements and the effects of contamination on system performance and longevity. The individual will also understand how materials and processes engineering selections affect contamination engineering and control results.

A successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of independence, project leadership, creativity, innovation and resourcefulness in the application of contamination control.

Responsibilities include

  • Develop cleanliness requirements for high-reliability products

  • Implement contamination control features in product design

  • Validate and/or verify cleanliness attributes of as-built products

  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate and qualify materials for contamination control uses

  • Communicate results, concepts, contamination control behaviors and risks to colleagues, program managers, vendors and customers

  • Evaluate, review and validate capabilities of vendors, integrator facilities, to best protect contamination-critical items and ensure corrective actions and gaps are closed in timely manner

  • Capable of reading/understanding technical requirements, manuals, engineering drawings and schematics.

  • Ability to plan, manage and prioritize multiple projects is required.

  • Must be able to clearly and accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication as well as work in a Team environment.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary.

  • Support forensic collection and results analysis for failure analysis of materials

  • Review customer guidance and implement corrective action when needed

  • Support design, development, manufacturing and assembly from a contamination control prospective, verify materials requirements, translate requirements into specifications, mentor product designers, peers and junior engineers

Required Skills

  • At least 4 years of related hands-on experience in contamination control field and materials engineering

  • Understanding of relationships between manufacturing processes and related defects to put appropriate quality controls in place

  • Understanding of principles and methods for contamination control in clean room environments.

  • Knowledge of industry standards, design rules, capabilities and practices

  • Knowledge of contamination control and materials and processes in aerospace applications.

  • Demonstrate technical leadership

  • Familiarity with analytical chemistry techniques (FT-IR, RGA, (EGAMS), TGA/DSC)

  • Familiarity with physics techniques (XRF, SEM, Auger, EDX)

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time and communicate plans and risks to management, customers and stakeholders.

  • Understanding of Contamination/Cleanroom Standards

  • Knowledge and experience with Class 100 to Class 100,000 Cleanrooms

Desired Skills

  • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing principles and aerospace materials

  • Experienced in Design of Experiment, Statistical Process Controls, and be capable of applying statistical data analysis method to raw data set

  • Prior experience in DoD or Aerospace

  • Cross functional Experiences: System Engineering, Whole Life Engineering, Supply chain, Mission Assurance

  • Familiarity with vacuum chambers and systems

  • Prior experience with aerospace materials development, aerospace industry specifications and supplier collaboration and management

Required Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Chemical, Material Science, Mechanical) or higher

  • BS and 4 years of experience of experience, MS and 2 years of experience of experience, PhD and 0 years of experience

  • 2 years+ of experience as a Contamination Control Engineer

Desired Education

  • Masters or Doctorate of Science in Engineering (Chemical, Material Science, Mechanical) or similar

  • 4 years+ of experience as a Contamination Control Engineer

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
