Fairfield is currently seeking a highly motivated, experienced EH&S Specialist to join our team working in a hands-on, collaborative environment. The EH & S Specialist will partner with the site EH & S team, and line supervision to ensure EH & S regulatory compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations and adherence to Collins Aerospace procedures and Raytheon Technologies EH & S Functional Corporate Policies as well as identification of health & safety hazards and controls to mitigate risks

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide EH&S subject-matter expertise to assist in the design of products and processes related to the site including environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, contractor management, ergonomic assessments , etc.

  • Prepare, update, and maintain Storm water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans.

  • Collect storm water and drinking water samples, review analytical data, assess the need for additional controls, and implement new controls as required.

  • Support audits, reports and inquiries from regulatory agencies including EPA. DTSC, CUPAs and Local Fire Departments, State and Regional Waterboard, etc.

  • Develop, track and report environmental metrics

  • Development and execution of Industrial Hygiene Program, and provision of guidance to site on all aspects of IH Management.

  • Lead the development and deployment of cost effective programs/initiatives furthering reductions of; hazardous waste, water use, and greenhouse gas emissions with a focus on project development to drive sustainability. Coordinate/drive the necessary tactical resources/elements to ensure successful implementation.

  • Lead EH&S audits and inspections of premises and operations in conjunction with others to monitor performance and assist the relevant lane management to produce action plans to implement the necessary improvements.

  • Develop, coordinate, and present training programs for EH&S-related subjects required by federal, state, local, and company requirements.

  • Write, review, update and implement environment, health and safety programs, procedures, reports and training as required by Collins Aerospace Policy and all Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies.

  • Establish appropriate prevention and control methods. Advise and approve site operating decisions for new/modified operations, processes and/or equipment for environment, health and safety impacts prior to induction within the facility, by supporting the site Management of Change program.

  • Define requirements, audit program elements, write standard work, implement regulatory compliance activities and provide timely information.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Safety, Engineering, Science, or other related field of Science

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • US Citizenship required

  • Demonstrated knowledge in environment, health and safety regulations.

  • The ability to take a lead role to ensure established EH&S standards, procedures, and programs are met and complied with. Using in-depth knowledge to provide recommendations for complex EH&S issues to management and staff, including compliance with EH&S regulations and the implementation of the EH&S Management System.

  • Capable of working with a wide range of people from the Site Leader to shop floor, and of providing team leadership when required to meet highly aggressive goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with California state specific EH&S regulations and laws

  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing or complex manufacturing environment

  • Education in Industrial Hygiene or related field preferred, or experience in Industrial Hygiene field of expertise

  • Ability to assist with explosive safety and general safety issues as necessary.

  • Drive and influence change, provide strong team building, cross-functional guidance and expertise

  • Strong communication, technical and interpersonal skills required.

  • Candidates must possess strong skills in PowerPoint, Excel and EH&S company managed systems.

  • Candidates should also be able to work independently on projects, participate on multiple team efforts, be energetic and provide team leadership when required.

  • Continuous Improvement experience e.g. ACE, Six Sigma, LEAN etc. strongly desired.
