This position is for an experienced Contracts professional with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise in US Government and Commercial contracts administration to lead a team of six other Contracts professionals in a challenging and fast paced environment. The leader oversees the team’s workload to ensure the effective performance of the lifecycle of the contracts, from solicitation review to closeout. The leader advises business leadership of contractual rights and obligations to protect business interests. Responsible for and implements improvements to department processes to ensure effectiveness of the Contracts team. The team members are located in two locations, Colorado Springs CO and Fairfield, CA, supporting two separate businesses that supply critical safety equipment to the aerospace industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages a team of intermediate to experienced Contracts professionals in reviewing solicitations, preparing bids and proposals, negotiating term, executing and administering contracts, and contract closeout for proper contract acquisition and fulfillment in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications.

  • Advises the business leaders and other team members on issues concerning contract matters and obligations to protect business interests.

  • Trains employees and other business team members regarding Contracting issues.

  • Responsible for and implements improvements to department processes to ensure effectiveness of the Contracts team.

  • Directs analysis and prepares reports, as required, to ensure that team contracts are within negotiated and agreed-upon parameters and government cost control guidelines.

  • Coaches and guides team members as required and reviews their work to ensure output is of quality and in accordance with business objectives.

  • For more complex issues, assists the team in the conduct of proposal preparation, contract negotiation, and customer contact activities to ensure contract acquisition and fulfillment in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications.

  • Advises and represents the organization on legal issues concerning contractual matters, with applicable Office of General Counsel review/approval as required.

  • Compiles and analyzes data, and ensure the team is effectively maintaining historical information to ensure ease of accessibility and retrieval of data and documents.

  • Advises on Data Rights and Intellectual Property matters and interfaces with the Intellectual Property group, as required.

  • Performs all aspects of personnel management for the reporting team members.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U. S. citizen

  • Prior experience working with government contracts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applicant is currently located in Colorado Springs, CO or Fairfield, CA, or is willing to relocate.
