Job Description

Performs a wide variety of highly complex technical tasks which requires knowledge of engineering techniques and mechanical design theory in the creation of computer models to determine design solutions for pyro-mechanical components and systems. Assists in the modifications of engineering design prototypes and/or first article pyro-mechanical equipment in preparation for production design release of product. Assists in the creation and maintenance of design documentation and release of documentation into the enterprise business systems. Works with sustaining engineering to maintain and upgrade existing legacy designs

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs the preparation of required records for the release of design data and design documentation into the company data and documentation control systems.

  • May assist in the area of mentoring new designers or engineers in the current processes and procedures for transitioning initial design concepts to fully detailed designs and layouts.

  • Under general supervision: Performs a variety of highly technical tasks which require a substantial understanding of technical engineering techniques to create precision mechanical or pyrotechnic design layout per verbal instructions, sketches, existing hardware or engineering lab models, received from both mechanical and/or chemistry and other technical support personnel.

  • May assist engineering in determining and employing proper specifications for materials, finishes and processes, , etc. during the design process.

  • Applies Company, Industry and Contractual standards during the preparation of hardware design and documentation data.

  • Completes the preparation of the necessary technical documentation for the release of Hardware design data into the company documentation control system.

  • Assists engineering/chemistry in the preparation of data & documentation during the revision of released artifacts in the document control system.

  • Maintains an awareness of contractually controlled Government and/or Company design and documentation requirements building knowledge in supporting the completion of assigned tasks.

  • Capable of, with training, interpreting US Export regulations (ITAR and EAR) and applying the appropriate classification markings to commodities and technical data.

  • Has an intermediate understanding of the CAD and data management tools to enable completion of design tasks. AutoCAD experience preferred

  • Ability model complex systems and parts with minimal direction; NX and Solidworks experience preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of drafting principals, ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5

  • May direct lower grade personnel in the preparation of the necessary technical documentation

  • May assist in the area of mentoring or training of new Mechanical Designers or Engineers in the current procedures for design database and documentation release.

  • May provide validation of change definition artifacts for revisions to existing design and drawing/documentation.

  • May provide validation of revision capture definition into formal design and documentation data in accordance with defined change requirements.

  • Understanding of the energetics industry preferred

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Must be U.S. citizen

  • Must have the ability to work on site

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Proficient in NX, Solidworks and AutoCAD

  • Firm understanding of ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5
