Collins Aerospace is looking for an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer who will be managing projects to implement cost effective solutions to manufacture aerospace nacelle components. They will be responsible for evaluating the components manufactured and assembled by Collins Aerospace and evaluate improved solutions. They will work with different technology solution providers and integrators to determine the right equipment and integrate the equipment into new or existing product lines. In addition, this function will work closely with other internal organizations, such as program, tooling, quality, operations, and senior leadership to ensure internal and external commitments and milestones are met.

This position will require the engineer to relocate to and/or reside in the Gulf Shores, AL, region, or to already reside in Chula Vista, CA, and be available for extensive and extended visits onsite at the Foley, AL, site. Travel to other facilities will also be required at 20%.Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Collins manufacturing and assembly processes looking for process improvement utilizing lean six sigma tools.

  • Evaluate new and existing technologies and suppliers to find a technical solution to process improvements. Supplier visits and tradeshows are common.

  • Develop program and project requirements with stakeholders to develop statements of work and project charters.

  • Execute project plans, provide input to Make/Buy decisions and partners with Procurement to meet program schedule, cost and quality targets.

  • Develop financial analysis to show project return and work closely with program finance and procurement to secure project funding.

  • Lead projects with a small project team to implement new technology from concept to full rate production. Project teams include focals from the operations, R&T, facilities, tooling, quality, EH&S, program, and leadership teams.

  • Perform design reviews and acceptance testing to validate SOW requirements on new equipment with approval from all stakeholders and operational compliance.

  • Integrate the technology into a tool/process/area in a busy production environment.

  • Evaluate system performance using process stability tools and evaluate quality using six sigma tools.

  • Problem solve, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment using root cause analysis, technical expertise, and six sigma skills to improve uptime and OEE.

  • Develop transfer to production plans for the operations team to be self-sufficient.

  • Travel will be required to other Collins facilities for equipment installation, testing and support.

  • The position is to be based out of Foley, AL with periodic travel to the Riverside, CA, Chula Vista, CA, San Marcos, TX, and/or Mexicali MX facilities (20% travel).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder.

  • Experience in the development of project plans using Microsoft Project; including schedule, budget and resource planning. Evaluation of technical options against schedule and budgetary constraints.

  • Experience working in a production environment and improving processes.

  • Lead teams using effective communication, presentation skills, and leadership skills.

  • Experience troubleshooting machinery such as PLCs, Robotics, and new equipment.

  • Proficient in 3D modeling software.

  • Understands and utilizes lean six sigma principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to develop project plans and execute on program need dates.

  • Good technical writing and presentation skills.

  • Experience in the aerospace, automotive, or biomedical fields.

  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and Fanuc robots.

  • Experience with implementing automation solutions processes for drilling, tooling, sealing, curing, and/or painting.

  • Project Management Processional (PMP) and Six Sigma Certifications.

  • Ability to develop NPV and ROI calculations on projects.

  • Proficient in Catia, Roboguide, Delmia, Studio 5000, Minitab software.

  • Smart Factory and IoT programming and networking.

  • Experience with Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) evaluations.
