Raytheon Technologies Associate Director, Process Engineering in Goleta, California

Raytheon Intelligence & Space in Goleta, California is seeking an Associate Director, Process Engineering to lead the overall process and equipment engineering teams supporting the Raytheon Vision Systems (RVS) focal plane array (FPA) and Dewar manufacturing lines. The opportunity presents a significant opportunity to work on the cutting edge of electro-optical infrared manufacturing with semiconductor wafer processing as well as ultra-precision electro-mechanical manufacturing. The team supports multiple large and small programs running from technical development to production with annual revenue of approximately $300M. This position leads highly technical process engineering teams for FPA and Dewar manufacturing as well as the equipment engineering and support organization to develop, implement and accelerate manufacturing process controls and product yields. This leader directs and develops a team responsible for the design, implementation and optimization of manufacturing processes, equipment, and manufacturing plants to achieve predictable performance and productivity targets.

The leader is responsible for managing yield improvement projects or programs where consistent decisions are made regarding the overall goals and objectives of significant programs or segments of the organization through all phases of the lifecycle. They need to balance the technical needs vs the business impact of project/program decisions and operate within the guardrails. They are responsible for helping to develop a robust staffing and talent development pipeline for appropriate process and equipment engineering competencies. The FPA, Dewar and Equipment Engineering Managers report directly to this role. This leader sets the vision, thinks strategically, and implements necessary improvements to achieve predictable performance. This leader leads projects where cost and schedule requirements make driving near term and long-term results and influences business decisions of functional leadership to drive and execute successful change. This includes having to influence leaders up to VP level, requiring the use of data and understand what levers are needed to make a case for change and present business case and ROI to the leaders of other organizations.

The Associate Director, Process Engineering is a member of the RVS Operations Leadership Team, with responsibilities including site level process strategy and communication, shopload/staffing forecasts, leading capital strategy and execution as well as facility plans, Risk Review Board, Corrective Action Board, and site safety initiatives.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 12 years of professional experience in a semiconductor or electo-mechanical manufacturing enterprises.

  • Excellent communicator and team-builder with strong Interpersonal, negotiation, leadership and organizational skills.

  • Comprehensive process engineering business strategist with an ability to identify and lead cultural change efforts to implement strategy improvements and positively impact the bottom line

  • Demonstrated experience hiring, developing, mentoring, and managing a team of highly capable process and equipment engineers to achieve predictable performance.

  • Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvements in process design, process control, cost savings, quality and resource utilization to meet business strategic objectives.

  • Proven success developing proactive solutions to complex technical and engineering problems on both an individual, and team, level where analysis of process or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors in a rapidly changing and demanding environment.

  • In depth experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), clean room improvements and applying mathematical modeling and statistics using Minitab or similar software to yield improvement highly desired.

  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems

Desired Skills:

  • Minimum of 8 years proven process engineering leadership experience in a cross-functional manufacturing environment

  • Experience using machine learning techniques to identify trends and correlations to improve process control and yield highly desired.

  • Previous experience with high mix precision electromechanical/semiconductor products in a highly controlled operations environment

  • Experience with and advanced training in lean manufacturing concepts and techniques

  • Proven ability to perform data mining and analysis to prioritize and drive continuous improvement.

Required Education:

  • BS degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or related field

Desired Education

  • MBA and/or Master’s degree highly desired
