Raytheon Technologies Senior Principal Digital Electronics Design Engineer in Hanover, Maryland

Raytheon’s Intelligence & Space Hardware Engineering Center is seeking a Senior Digital Design Engineer to join the team in the Radar Electronics department.

Raytheon Intelligence & Space’s Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product development and mission assurance. This position is for a Digital Electronics Design Engineer to work on radar electronics product development for defense airborne and space applications. The position will be located in Hanover, Maryland.

The candidate will be responsible for developing unit, module, and/or functional level requirements derived from system level requirements . The candidate will also be responsible for developing associated architectures, implementing logic design s (ASIC and / or FPGAs) , perform ing detailed analysis , and unit-level testing in a laboratory setting. The candidate will be familiar with latest technology trend s in the area of microprocessor technology , static and dynamic memory, vendor-specific FPGA design tools, and board-level interface s . The candidate will work in the product development team environment with system, mechanical, and software engineers. This position may require occasional business related travel.

In addition, the candidate will lead diverse teams, provide technical oversight, delegate tasks, and work with the Engineering organization to establish technology roadmaps, and contribute to general innovation. In addition, the candidate will work with government personnel and programs, and define and refine requirements to validate hardware compliance. The candidate may also be responsible for providing guidance, coaching, mentoring, and training to other employees within the candidate’s areas of expertise.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in D igital hardware design and testing, or 8 years with a related Master’s degree

  • Experience with Synthesis and Simulation D esign Tool s (Mentor Graphics Questa/Modelsim) to create HDL designs implemented in modern FPGAs.

  • Experience creating board-level designs from schematic to layout generation that incorporate microprocessor s , digital high-speed transceivers, volatile and non-volatile memories, programmable components, parts lists , and design review packages for complex electronics

  • Generate Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout constraint guidelines, oversee the layout and fabrication of the design

  • Hands-on experience in testing of products using logic analyzer, high-speed oscilloscopes, signal generators, and FPGA debugging tools

  • Experience with interfaces and bus standards such as: VME, PCI, PCIe, VPX, and Gb Ethernet

  • Experience with High-speed data converter (ADCs & DACs) integration into signal processing applications

  • Knowledge of FPGA signal processing techniques such as Direct-Digital Synthesis, FIR Filter design, Beamforming, and Channel Equalization

  • Knowledge of FPGA design implementation with VHDL design language

  • Possess skills to handle fast pace and dynamic product development environment

  • Strong team player with good interpersonal skills as well as excellent written/verbal communication skills

  • Position requires an active Secret, SSBI, SCI, and/or TS clearance as of day one of employment.

  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

    Desired Skills:

  • Active SSBI clearance.

  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace industries.

  • Prior experience in RF electronics development for space systems.

  • Advanced degrees preferred

    Required Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline from an ABET accredited university.

    Desired Education:

  • Master’s degree and/or PhD in Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
