The Raytheon Missile and Defense's (RMD) Mechanical Product Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of a large range of defense and commercial equipment.
The Energetics and Propulsion Team within MPT seeks an experienced CAD Drafter/Designer to support our Standard Missile family of products.
The position is centered in Huntsville, AL, with a preference to work in Huntsville (relocation package available), but the selected drafter may work remotely if necessary.
The CAD Drafter/Designer will perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations.
They will solve routine problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures with minimal direction or supervision.
The CAD Drafter/Designer will review 2D drawings in PDFs and from other sources and convert them using CREO into 3D mechanical design layouts, detail and assembly drawings and models (including but not limited to packaging, mechanisms, and castings) and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and/or military specifications.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
Note: This position can be Salary Grade G07 (Technical Support Engineer II) or Salary Grade G08 (Senior Technical Support Engineer I) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, leadership, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
For Tech Support Engineer II:
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of 3D drafting experience (8 years of 3D drafting experience with an Associate’s Degree or 10 years of 3D drafting experience in lieu of degree)
For Sr. Tech Support Eng I:
Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of 3D drafting experience (10 years of 3D drafting experience with an Associate’s Degree or 12 years of 3D drafting experience in lieu of degree)
Other requirements below for either salary grade:
- Experience with AutoCAD performing any combination of the following:
identification of model or drawing errors, omissions and/or other deficiencies; recommendation of corrective actions and/or preparation of engineering design documentation
Experience with CREO Parametric (Pro/Engineer) solid modeling tool
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Work or academic experience with Windchill product data management (PDM) tool
Experience with the Microsoft office suite
Desired Education, Skills and Experience:
BS degree in a STEM field preferred
Prefer 10 years of design and drafting experience
Existing DoD Secret clearance
Mechanical design experience in other areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, harnessing, structures, cabling, surfacing and mechanisms
Experience using documentation specifications such as MIL-STD-31000, ASME Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100
Knowledge of Raytheon Technologies Drafting Standards and mechanical engineering process for documentation preparation
Knowledge of Raytheon Technologies processes and procedures
Experience with machine shop tools
Ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently
Effective oral and written communication skills / good communicator
