The Future Vertical Lift Integrated Project Team (FVL IPT) department is looking for a Platform Systems Engineer to develop aircraft level system requirements, designs, and tests for the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) program. FARA is one of five aircraft that comprise the US Army Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization priority, with a focus on improving capability in the near-future battle space. The Systems Engineer is expected to support development of the system architecture, decompose customer requirements to system requirements, analyze design characteristics, and allocate requirements to the various systems of the aircraft. This effort will transition to assembling the software/hardware components and testing the overall system. Documentation of the overall system will be performed using the next generation process of model based systems engineering. This program will provide an exciting, high-paced, dynamic environment which will result in building a bridge to our future technologies and processes at Collins Aerospace as well as providing a differentiator for the US Army’s continual drive for airspace superiority.
This position can be located in either Cedar Rapids, IA or Huntsville, AL

Primary Responsibilities:
Collaborate with platform system team on technical solutions to complex aircraft systems problems
Develop design approaches and high-level requirements following model based systems engineering processes
Coordinate with matrixed organization of subsystem/domain engineers throughout development lifecycle
Verify and validate all aspects of an aircraft system of systems meet customer requirements and concepts of operations through test execution and troubleshooting in a lab environment
Hold design reviews and technical interchange meetings with customer to solve complex problems while maintaining program scope, schedule, and budget
Basic Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience is required.
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Experience with design, requirements capture, development, and integration of software systems and hardware solutions
Familiarity with SysML or model based systems engineering
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%
Contributes to a positive, team environment through collaboration and communication with peers
Seeks innovative solutions that have positive business impacts and turns those innovations into reality
Champions a customer-first culture
Passionate about delivering technical presentations to internal and external customers to influence technology roadmaps
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with avionics development processes such as (ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-254, DO-178)
Experience with military avionics systems
