Become part of an exciting directorate within the Mission Systems Engineering & Technology (E&T) Organization. The Applications and Infrastructure Services pillar is seeking a Software Engineering Manager with technical talent and proven leadership to deliver service-oriented capabilities, foster a collaborative learning culture, and fuel high quality continuous software and feature delivery. This position is responsible for leading cross-functional teams to provide a variety of services to engineering that include development, deployment, and support of the next generation business integration tools.

Collins Aerospace Engineering Applications & Infrastructure Services organization is seeking a Software Engineering Manager with a passion for problem solving and satisfying customers through the delivery of improvements to the global engineering ecosystem that provide compelling gains to the consistency, efficiency, and productivity of product development efforts across the enterprise. A candidate in this role will have a proven track record of leading collocated and distributed teams through continuous improvement and meeting customer expectations. A leader that balances a passion for leadership, knowledge of Agile methodologies, and delivering on customer commitments in the application development space will thrive in this opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Passion for challenging and developing people

  • Leads individual talent and is responsible for a team of contributors

  • Accountable for success (technical, schedule, etc.) of assigned/allocated tasks and activities

  • Leverages advanced principles, theories, and concepts of complex technical subjects to provide direction for employees

  • Delegates work assignments to team members while respecting Agile methodologies and commitments where applicable

  • Actively addresses employee performance and development issues

  • Conduct one on ones with team members as well as performance reviews at multiple checkpoints throughout the year.

  • Responsible for the development and technical coaching of staff

  • Provides guidance to direct reports within the latitude of established departmental policies and objectives

  • Responsible staff planning and onboarding of new hires

  • Interfaces with external agencies, internal customers, and partner organizations within the company to ensure effective two-way communication of needs and results

  • Maintains awareness of technology, software development and deliver, and roadmaps within the domains of their area of responsibility

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Enjoy problem solving and committed to delivering high-quality software

  • Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customer and business.

  • Positive attitude and eager to learn and improve

  • Proven ability to be a force multiplier for team(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in Agile methodologies and software delivery

  • Proven experience with leading multiple Agile teams

  • Balance the needs of stakeholders and Product owners with those of the Scrum master and development team

  • Ability to collaborate and partner with others to find the best possible solutions for process, delivery, and customer service

  • Experience with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence) or other Application Lifecycle Management toolsets

  • Ability to recognize and address technical debt with development team(s) and Product Owner(s)

  • Experience with DevOps / DevSecOps toolchains

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Enjoy problem solving and committed to delivering high-quality software

  • Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customer and business.

  • Positive attitude and eager to learn and improve

  • Proven ability to be a force multiplier for team(s)
