Want to be directly involved in the designing and executing of test solutions for a variety of different mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic aerospace products? If so this may be the opportunity that you have been looking for. As a Senior Test Technician, you will oversee the daily activities in a team who supports the development of the systems used on aircraft worldwide. Here you will be developing and performing product tests for a variety of Collins Aerospace products. If you don’t want to be limited to only electronic or mechanical component testing then this position is for you, as knowledge of both are essential to this position. This position works regularly with aircraft cargo system components including motors, circuit boards, displays, joysticks, airframe structural members, mechanical latches, ball transfer units, rollers, and panels.

The primary responsibility for this position is to assist test engineers in developing and validating aerospace cargo handling equipment including structural and mechanical components, electro-mechanical components, and electronics. The test technician who fills this position will need strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills using equipment that may include but are not limited to the following test equipment: Digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, dynamotors, and electronic loads. This position could also require use of equipment to support structural, thermal, humidity, fluids and vibration test requirements. Test fixture design and fabrication requiring light machining or additive manufacturing methods may also be utilized.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the design engineering team to execute, and document all testing required for development, certification and/or qualification of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic components and systems.

  • Collaborate directly with test and design engineers on the development, details and implications of both test procedures and results.

  • Possess extensive working knowledge of standard test equipment, oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers etc., as well as a working knowledge of custom test equipment including automatic test equipment

  • Plan and execute experiments and gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes to support engineering disciplines

  • Identify and develop standardized test procedure, work instructions, or efficiency improvements where applicable or needed

  • Support the development, creation, and enhancement of test strategies and standard work procedures

  • Supervise and provide technical direction to others with test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition process

  • Serve as a mentor and guide in the development of junior test technicians and co-ops

  • Perform basic to complex tasks involving the layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modification of electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical test equipment, hardware, and software issues

  • Operate, inspect, and maintain test setups and equipment calibrations to detect malfunctions of test equipment, procedure, or setup for in-house testing and as required at 3rd party testing facilities

  • Applies extensive experience in test automation and calibration of test equipment to identify and implement efficiency improvements where applicable

  • Support the selection and purchase of equipment, components and general test tools in line with the product/process technological requirements. Provide guidance and purchase recommendations on latest testing and data acquisition technology

  • Operate, create and edit software code for numerous testers utilized for new product development

  • Supervise and perform monthly safety and lab organization audits. (EH&S, 5S, and FOD audits).

  • Supervisory responsibility for test lab area by general 5S, TPM, FOD prevention, point of use tooling, creation and upkeep of workstation shadow boards, EH&S audits and issue resolution

  • Performs difficult electrical/mechanical repair operations consisting of disassembly and assembly of test articles and equipment

  • Analyzes circuitry and physically checks wiring and operation of various electronic parts, units, and systems components necessary to locate malfunction causes found during testing of components, equipment or systems.

  • Support engineering management and business development with identification of new test capability opportunities

    Basic Qualifications:

  • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

  • OR in the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required

  • OR A Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience

  • OR an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. Certification may be required for technical support roles.

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with 28 volts dc, 400 hertz AC, and 270 volt dc power circuits

  • Extensive knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems utilizing LabVIEW TestStand, IDEC SmartRelay Programming (or equivalent) desired.

  • Experience in engineering hardware design and testing with aircraft related qualification and/or certification testing

  • Familiar with the use and maintenance of standard aerospace test methods, and aerospace test equipment, (example: vibration, EMI, environmental, NI equipment, power quality, lightning, custom electromechanical test stands, etc.)

  • Extensive experience of independent problem solving of testing issues at both in-house and 3rd party facilities

  • Extensive test equipment set up and tear down experience

  • Knowledge and ability to setup and use various test equipment including electronic devices, environmental chambers and vibration shakers

  • Extensive work history with Military, Airbus, and Boeing standards and requirements

  • Ability or desire to create software programs

  • Must be able to read and understand electronic schematics, design drawings, detailed task procedures

  • Ability to communicate fluently both verbally and written with command of MS Office skills

  • Be comfortable using tools and equipment in a hands on lab environment including mills, saws, grinders, dmms, oscilloscopes, power supplies

  • Experience in automation, calibration

  • Experience in cargo loading operations

  • Forklift and First Aid certifications

  • Less than 10% travel expected
