Job Description: Digital Design Section Manager

We are looking for an experienced senior level designer to join our team. The effective candidate will be responsible for a group of 10-20 design engineers. The Section Manager (SM) is a frontline Leader and is a critical part of the engineering department leadership team. The position requires broad based technical knowledge and technical leadership

In addition to the Section Manager role this person will continue to function as one of the following capacities: as a Circuit Card developer, a Task Lead or proposal lead. Knowledge of Earned Value Management, experience preparing technical and cost proposals and the ability to review designs, analyses, and lead engineering investigations is expected.

Location of this position can be in Marlborough MA or Largo FL.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing functional guidance and direction of 10-20 design engineers, work assignments and resource allocation, career development and mentoring. Ensure assignments and partnering is cohesive and working well

  • Reviewing program performance by meeting with hardware leads, understand of the technical challenges and staffing needs, and participate in milestone design reviews.

  • Support business capture activities, bid package generation, and Basis of Estimates (BoE).

  • Develop relationships with Program Managers and other Section Managers to ensure steady work assignments for direct reports.

  • Encouraging and fostering creativity and technology insertion into our product lines

  • Perform as Hiring manager to increase talent base.

  • Serve as a role model for behavior and conduct

Required Skills:

A minimum of 8 years professional engineering experience as a senior Designer with the following demonstrated skills/experience

  • Experience in project team guidance, including technical, budget, staffing, and schedule management

  • PCB electronic circuit design software: HyperLynx signal integrity, power integrity, and analog simulation, Xpedition Enterprise (xPCB)

  • Experience with interfaces and bus standards such as: Serial Rapid IO, VME, PCI, PCIe, VPX, and Gb Ethernet

  • Good communication and presentation skills.

  • Good organizational skills

  • Passion for coaching people, mentoring and encouraging career development

  • Demonstrated task ownership and accountability

  • Possess, or able to obtain, Secret security clearance and COMSEC clearance

  • US Citizenship is required

Desired Skills:

  • Experience as a lead (Hardware lead, IPT Lead or led a significant development effort)

  • Experience working with / leading geographically diverse teams

  • Experience with Scrum / Agile implementation and planning a plus

  • Experience with satellite communications systems, including familiarity with security aspects of protected satellite communications systems

  • Familiarity with security aspects of protected satellite communications systems.

  • Linux scripting experience.

  • Experience using DOORs tool for requirements capture and flow-down.

  • Experience in cost estimation and metric collection

  • Six Sigma/process improvement experience

  • Possesses an existing Secret DOD Clearance

Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, Master’s Degree preferred
