The Mechanical Analysis and Test Department is responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and positive thermal margin of all RMD Products. From the preliminary concept to fielded weapon support, A&T delivers innovative and robust thermal analysis solutions utilizing methods ranging from classical fundamental & proprietary empirically based techniques to state of the art finite element methods and commercial computer codes; all complimented and validated by tests executed in a manner to ensure cost effective yet technically balanced solutions. A thermal analyst in the Mechanical Analysis and Test Department has a vast set of responsibilities related to heat transfer and fluid flow analysis of a variety of different types of hardware on all of the RMD projects.
The Thermal Analyst is responsible for detailed thermal/fluid flow analysis to support all phases of programs including development and production. The successful candidate will join a highly specialized analysis group, which supports the design of a variety of electronics cooling applications, most of which apply for radar applications (ground-based, shipboard and undersea). Thermal design and analysis support will be required for new architectures as well as refurbished field replacements or equipment that consists of a combination of current and obsolete hardware. In addition, the successful candidate may work on engineering teams to solve challenging production issues, perform thermal testing/measurements and support internal or customer funded research and design projects. The successful candidate will be assigned to multi-disciplinary engineering teams, providing innovative solutions to critical DoD programs, which protect our nation and its allies. From a functional standpoint, the successful candidate will join a highly talented MA&T department consisting of over 50 thermal engineers and will be provided with mentoring opportunities from more experienced engineers.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Perform Hand Calculations to determine scope of higher detail analysis models
Perform detailed analysis to solve diverse program thermal challenges
Perform peer reviews of all analysis to validate process and results
Document results according to RMD standards
Deliver results to customers (internal and external)
On a typical day, the analyst will interact with multidisciplinary teams to support the assigned analysis task, whether it be with other analysts or with stakeholders from Mechanical/Electrical Design, Reliability and Manufacturing and with external customers and suppliers
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s in in General Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, Applied Physics or related field. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Master’s is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience.
Two (2) years of thermal analysis experience
Thermal Analysis Experience using at least one of these tools: FloTHERM, PATRAN, Thermal Desktop/SINDA or ANSYS or equivalent
Understanding of thermodynamic principles to solve classical thermal analysis solutions both inside and outside of finite element tools
Basic understanding of CAD tools in order to facilitate finite element solutions
Proficiency with engineering workstations running Windows and Office suite
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
Four (4) or more years of experience in the thermal analysis of complex systems that require collaboration of multiple engineering disciplines (such as a weapon system)
Earned Value Management System knowledge
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Experience in Electronics Cooling Analysis
Strong interpersonal skills working in a team environment with positive interaction
Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities
Demonstrated experience in leading thermal testing: Planning, organization, execution, data reduction and correlation
Ability to document analytical assumptions, methodology and results in formal reports in support of stakeholder PDRs and CDRs
Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
