The Mechanical Products Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment using state-of the-art tools, processes and technology. Incorporating Raytheon Six Sigma standards MPT’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation.
The Antenna Systems Department designs some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world and is seeking a motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience in hardware design and analysis to join our team. The position will primarily support design, development, and production focused around phased array antennas and supporting structures, power, and cooling sub-systems. The key responsibilities for this position include technical problem solving, along with technical management in the development of new hardware. Senior engineers will be required to make sound technical judgements, provide supervision and direction to junior engineers and manage to cost and schedule requirements of assigned tasks.
An advanced degree can be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Master’s is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Mechanical design, analysis and documentation of hardware and systems
Representing the Mechanical Engineering organization as a technical contact on projects
Working as part of, or managing, a small team during product development, part and drawing creation, drawing release, and drawing change incorporation
Creatively apply mechanical engineering knowledge to efficiently solve complex design problems, and make sound and rationale data oriented technical conclusions
Providing factory and supplier support domestically and internationally
Holding and participating in design reviews and resolving action items
Collaborating with senior external personnel on significant technical matters requiring coordination within and between organizations
This position will require interfacing with other mechanical engineers, designers, and structural / thermal analysts, as well as engineers from other disciplines, along with customers and program management
Qualifications You Must Have:
B.S in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
8 years mechanical engineering design experience
Experience with electronic packaging, including antenna or pedestal design
Experience using CAD software, preferably CREO (Pro/ENGINEER)
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
10 years mechanical engineering design experience
Exposure with radar, antenna, militarized or precision systems
Efficient and disciplined process execution behaviors coupled with agility of thought and knowledge of how to appropriately tailor processes to fit the task
Experience with technical and cost proposal development, technical risk management, and managing to cost and schedule requirements for assigned tasks
Ability to multi-task and successfully manage multiple activities at any given time
Ability to collaborate well with other team members across various disciplines, including other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, supply chain, and program management
Strong design and drawing skills including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and associated tolerance analysis
Understanding of the product development lifecycle models and program lifecycle modes
Strong presentation and technical writing skills combined with knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools
