Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RI&S) in Marlborough, MA is seeking a Senior Power Engineer to join our Hardware and Infrastructure (HW&I) team in developing the next generation air traffic control and weather systems for civil and military customers around the world. Our STARS Air Traffic Control (ATC) system is deployed in every airport across the US and we are looking to add to our team.

This position is for a design engineer who will work with product leads and other team members on a variety of tasks related to the design and development of systems using primarily Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products.

Tasks will include:

  • Research and selection of COTS hardware relating to the ATC Systems Power

  • Responsibility for design, test, and compliance to the ATC System Power Specifications

  • System prototyping and integration in the lab

  • Participating in design discussions and reviews

  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders and customers

  • Investigation and resolution of hardware issues, supplier product changes, device configuration issues, or customer change requests

  • Device configuration definition

The candidate must possess strong critical thinking skills and must also have experience meeting system requirements, schedule deadlines and project budgets. This is a growth position providing the opportunity for the continued development of design skills for safety critical systems.

    US Citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance required.

    Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice integrating and testing COTS components for compliance to applicable power requirements such as Power Factor, Harmonics, Inrush Current, etc.

  • System level power hardware integration and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience incorporating electromagnetic compatibility, electrical safety, grounding, shielding, cable parameters and other fundamental power requirements into your designs

  • Familiarity with power conditioning and power distribution devices and techniques

  • Experience taking a system design concept from the block diagram or requirements level and developing a complete solution and then verifying the design via integration and test activities

  • Experience collaborating in development with other engineering disciplines, supply chain, suppliers, field engineering, and customers to develop and deliver solutions

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, as well as thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint)

  • Willingness and ability to support occasional domestic travel and potential international travel

  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain DOD Secret Clearance

  • At least 5 years of professional experience

    Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with Power Characteristic Specifications including FAA-G-2100 and AC power system requirements such as the NFPA National Electric Code.

  • Lightning protection design experience (FAA-STD-019)

  • Familiarity with UL Requirements such as UL-60950

  • Experience with air traffic control or weather system hardware

  • Proven innovator of new and emerging technologies

  • Lead role experience for development efforts

  • Thermal design or analysis

  • Experience working in a Federal Government regulated environment

    Education Requirements:

    Requires a degree in Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field and 5+ years of related work experience.
