The Mechanical Product Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment using state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon Six Sigma standards MPT’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation
The Antenna Systems Department designs some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world and is seeking a motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience in hardware design and analysis. The position will primarily support design, development, and production focused around phased array antennas and supporting structures, power, and cooling sub-systems. Key expectations for this position include creative technical problem solving, along with technical leadership in the development of new hardware. Senior engineers will be required to make sound technical decisions, provide supervision and leadership to junior engineers and manage to cost and schedule requirements of assigned tasks.
An advanced degree can be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Master’s is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience. This position can be filled as a Sr. Mechanical Engineer II or as a Principal Mechanical Engineer based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, and responsibility requirements for the position.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Hardware design, development, analysis and TDP (Technical Data Package) development experience of Power Conversion and Distribution Systems:
Custom designed modules, cabinets, and integrated enclosures to support mobile, ground and shipboard radar systems
AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC conversion systems
COTS power supplies
Demonstrated industry experience with power or electronics systems used in military and ruggedized systems
Representing the Mechanical Engineering organization as a technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) on Power Systems design and electronic projects
Understanding system level requirements and flow downs, and CAD modeling and drawing creation for compliance
Working as part of, or managing, a small team during product development, part and drawing creation, drawing release, and drawing change incorporation
Supporting formal and informal design reviews (preliminary and critical design reviews, team meetings) along with resolving and tracking to closure all action items assigned during reviews.
Providing design oversight and technical support to suppliers domestically and internationally, and production support to Raytheon factories
This position will require interfacing with other mechanical engineers, designers, and structural / thermal analysts, as well as cross functional engineering teams from other disciplines and with program management and customers.
Qualifications You Must Have:
B.S in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
6+ years mechanical engineering design experience
Experience with electronic packaging, including antenna or pedestal design
Experienced in power conversion and distribution system design
Experience using CAD software, preferably CREO (PRO/ENGINEER)
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
Education: MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
6+ years mechanical engineering design experience
Exposure with radar, antenna, militarized or precision systems
Efficient and disciplined process execution behaviors coupled with agility of thought and knowledge of how to appropriately tailor processes to fit the task
Experience with technical and cost proposal development, technical risk management, and managing to cost and schedule requirements for assigned tasks
Ability to multi-task and successfully manage multiple activities at any given time
Ability to collaborate well with other team members across various disciplines, including other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, supply chain, and program management
Strong design and drawing skills including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and associated tolerance analysis
Understanding of the product development lifecycle models and program lifecycle modes
Strong presentation and technical writing skills combined with knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools.
