Our Advanced Electro-Optical (AEO) Engineering Product Group has an upcoming opportunity for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer with platform level expertise in window, ray dome, windscreen development for airborne electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) surveillance and targeting sensor systems. Successful applicants should have a strong technical background in either materials science, electromagnetics (EM), optical systems, or physics and are able to effectively communicate and work within multi–disciplinary teams. Experience should include hardware hands-on experience, requirements management, modeling, performance analysis, platform level integration, test planning, verification and validation testing.

You will be a key contributor in a dynamic system engineering team on a new high-profile program developing the next generation of airborne advanced Electro-Optical systems. The Window Assembly Systems Engineer will be responsible for working within a multi-disciplinary engineering team through planning, development of optical/EM/and material models, performance analysis, execution, procurement, supporting an engineering build, collaboration with operations and manufacturing team, integration, verification and validation testing to support delivery of a new Advanced EO/IR Sensor System. Additionally, the Window Assembly Systems Engineer will generate status and reporting to the program IPTL.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 10 years of systems engineering experience to include airborne EOIR system test, integration verification and validation testing, product transition to production.

  • Demonstrated experience in optical, EM, and material modeling, performance analysis, and model verification for complex EO/IR sensor systems

  • Demonstrated airborne EO/IR hardware design and/or systems engineering experience in development and production program.

  • Experience with requirements development, analysis, derivations, verification and validation.

  • Experience working within a structured Systems Engineering process environment including a task-oriented, value-based management system; some IPTL or related experience is helpful.

  • Requires prior engineering team experience, ideally to include systems / IV&V activities.

  • Ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams of program management and system design professionals including electrical, mechanical, software and logistics engineers.

  • Requires excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and be able to effectively communicate with IPT leaders, hardware and software development engineers, specialty engineers, program managers, and customers.

  • Experience conducting technical supplier management of development subcontractors.

  • An active and in-scope DOD Secret US security clearance is required.

  • Willingness to travel periodically in support of offsite testing along with customer and subcontractor meetings

Desired Skills:

  • Production experience in commercial and/or defense industries; production support, troubleshooting, and factory improvement initiatives; knowledge of transition to production programs in the EO/IR domain; developing and executing factory test plans, procedures, and equipment to support an EO/IR sensor system.

  • Prior experience with platform level window development, fabrication, integration, verification, and validation for a complex EO/IR system.

  • Publication and presentation of materials, EM, or optics related research in a peer-reviewed journal and conference

  • Minimum 8 years of experience designing and executing experiments

  • Minimum 5 years of FEA or FEM analysis (ANSYS, HFSS, CST, COMSOL, STAR-CCM, Code V, Zemax, and FRED are preferred)

  • Experience with basic scripting and/or software development (MATLAB, C++/C# preferred)

  • Solid analytical capabilities, or an ability to relate observed phenomenon back to first principals

Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree in a related STEM discipline, such as ME, EE, AE, Math, Physics, Optics, or related.

Desired Education:

M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Math, Physics, or related degree.
