The Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting Enhanced Position Location Reporting System (EPLRS) users with management and maintenance of EPLRS networks and supporting sub systems within both a development laboratory and an operational, environment. This includes providing timely advice on: development, implementation and adjustment of EPLRS deployment and communications plans, integration with 3rd party systems, assisting with day to day operational and administrative tasks, monitor and ensure systems availability and capacity, incident management, problem diagnoses and resolution.
The Communications Specialist will also be responsible for the effective and efficient management of a Communications Security (COMSEC) Account. The position will manage all aspects of the account and associated equipment in accordance with the relevant Defence regulations to ensure compliance and availability of equipment as required.
Service Delivery – provide 2nd & 3rd Level administration and support to the Defence system with regard to all EPLRS networks, infrastructure, requests and problems to meet Service Level Objectives. Support escalations to internal (Raytheon) agencies as required.
Hardware Support – provide diagnostics and fault resolution for hardware and common software services for Operational systems and administration of Windows platforms as part of the EPLRS Network Management Operational environment.
Security – Provide security advice to system users, customers and system administrators on standards and best practices as defined by Raytheon and Defence.
Provide advice to stakeholders on system security design in accordance with Raytheon and Defence best practices.
System and Network Monitoring – Monitoring of systems including alert management, event logs, security logs, performance, availability and capacity planning.
Field Support – Provide services to Defence and other Users in Barracks environment and, occasionally while on training exercise.
Communications Security - Manage and maintain the subject Raytheon Australia COMSEC Account including management of associated Physical Security in association with the Commonwealth Security Representative. Liaise with other Company COMSEC Custodians to manage the overall Physical environment and conduct Security Investigations as required.
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
Tertiary Qualifications in Information Technology / Telecommunications to Advanced Diploma level or equivalent experience.
Qualification in Radio Systems or equivalent experience
COMSEC Custodian qualifications
Minimum 5 years' experience within a Defence or technical environment.
Training experience within a Defence Training environment
Well-developed understanding and wide application of technical theories and concepts within the field of Defence Tactical Data Networks, as applicable.
