Collins Aerospace is seeking an early career RF design engineer to support the CNS (Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance) Traffic Department TCAS group. Collins Aerospace designs, integrates and certifies commercial avionics products for the Air Transport and Business and Regional aircraft markets. Traffic products include Transponder and Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS).

This role will be part of the team developing the next generation of TCAS Product, working with a small group of hardware Engineers. Applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and techniques commonly used in RF development and test. This position may encompass both new product development and legacy product sustaining support activities.

Applicant must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, with good communications skills, and a demonstrated ability to work within a multifunctional, multidiscipline team. The candidate will be required to demonstrate flexibility and an ability to coordinate with multiple teams, organizations, suppliers and customers to achieve a common goal.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and analyze RF system requirements.

  • Design and prototype RF circuits operating in L-band frequencies.

  • Analyze circuit performance using RF circuit simulation tools like ADS, Microwave Office.

  • Design, debug, and test RF and Analog Circuits (power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, and filter designs).

  • Develop schematics, oversee PCB layouts, and support design drawing development.

  • Participate in the build, debug and test of RF and mixed signal circuits.

  • Conduct RF tests using network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.

  • Develop verification test plans and procedures to ensure the developed product meets the specified requirements.

  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Manufacturing to ensure robust designs and appropriate testability.

  • Support product certification activities.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience is required

  • Experience in RF development (ideally 2 years) or masters level RF coursework

  • Experience in L-band RF circuit design.

  • Experience in design, debug, and test of Radio Frequency (RF) and Analog Circuits (power amplifier, low-noise amplifier and filter design).

  • Familiar with common RF/EM/antenna simulation platforms such as ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, etc.

  • Proficient with major types of RF test equipment (Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, etc.)

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • MSEE preferred

  • Experience with antenna design

  • Experience with DO-160 environmental/EMI qualification, and TSO approval processes

  • Experience with RTCA DO-254 standards for Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware.

  • Familiarity with avionics design and certifications standards for commercial air transport applications.

  • Familiarity with TCAS/Transponder product design

  • Experience with model-based development

  • Experience with JAMA/JAMA/SVN

  • Experience with Mentor Graphics DX Designer Schematic capture and layout tools

  • Exposure working with embedded processors and FPGAs

  • Familiarity with software designed radios design.

  • Experience with signal processing system simulation & analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink)
