Raytheon Technologies Optical Engineer - FL in Melbourne, Florida
As a member of Raytheon Codex, the candidate will be responsible for investigating and developing optical technologies and techniques. The candidate will also be responsible for validating the resulting optical concepts through test, measurement and characterization in a lab environment. Assignments will range from initial research and prototyping to full solution development.
Bachelors degree (Computer Engineering or Computer Science) or equivalent with a minimum 8 years of experience in optical technology
Understanding of optical systems including: modulation formats, high speed comms, optics transceivers
Understanding of various waveforms such as: DP-QPSK, DP-BPSK, DP-16QAM or other similar formats
Knowledge of transceivers such as: SFP, SFP+, SFP28, QSFP, QSFP+, QSFP28, CFP-DCO, or custom optical transceivers
Prior optical lab environment experience with extensive knowledge of assorted test equipment
Experience with C embedded software, MATLAB, Python, MIPS Assembly
Experience in optical technology design / trouble-shooting with expertise in optical communications technology
Use expertise to perform reverse engineering to find root cause through unique test bench setup
Security clearance: Current Top Secret clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
Experience as a task lead for small (<10 engineers) teams
Ability to mentor engineers with less optical knowledge/experience
Good problem solving, prioritization, planning skills, highly motivated and result focused
Microprocessors architecture and programming: Digital signal processors, microcontrollers, etc.
Familiarity with FPGA development, including algorithm design and VHDL implementation
Familiarity with networking and wireless protocols
Master of Science Degree in Computer Engineering or Physics discipline preferred
Required Education: Bachelor's degree (engineering, mathematics or computer science; preferred). Experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
