The Pratt & Whitney Amercon Manufacturing Engineering Organization is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the production of turbine airfoils.The Manufacturing Engineer's responsibilities include:
Develops welding techniques and application of welding equipment to processes involving joining of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
Conducts investigations to improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate defect root cause.
Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
Ensure compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
May perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
identify & implement shop floor process optimization & control methods to eliminate/prevent QCPC turn backs /escapes and reduce overall assembly costs.
Help create and maintain shop floor work instructions (including specifications, engineering changes, QAD/process control, and tooling definition/requirements.)
Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues.
Participate in ACE initiatives supporting the achievement of meeting the ACE 12.0 criteria.
Significant interaction with the hourly work force, tool designers, quality assurance, integrated product teams, systems designers, Information Systems, and program assembly partners are typical of the position.
A working-knowledge of the ACE Tools is desired including Process Certification & Management, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, QCPC/Root-Cause Analysis and Set-Up Reduction/Mistake-Proofing.
Bachelor degree required
Preference: Welding, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
Applicable manufacturing engineering experience and turbine airfoil processing knowledge are a strong plus for this position.
Excellent communication/presentation skills.
Strong project engineering/planning skills.
