We are looking for an Optical Manufacturing Engineer to join our winning team!
In this position, the incumbent will utilize their optical experience and know how to assess opto-mechanical designs for manufacturability. The individual will develop manufacturing plans for optical assemblies including holding, measuring, aligning and testing technical elements within products to meet customer specifications. Responsibilities will include participating in designing and building assembly line tooling for manufacturing and testing. The position may also include researching and developing automation, where feasible, to increase quality and repeatability within products.
Ability to interpret optical/mechanical blueprints, specifications, and technical data
Assess electro-opto-mechanical requirements and generate bases of estimate and technical proposals in response to customer requests for quotation
Provide technical interface with the business development team, internal assembly functions, and customers
Ability to define and breakdown electrical/optical/mechanical assembly and test processes
Develop and monitor project execution schedules and budgets with a diverse team of engineers
Participate in engineering design reviews with internal functions and customers
Conceive designs and communicate requirements for fixtures and tools to achieve assembly tolerances and performance
Establish and apply standard work methodologies across all functional areas of influence
Assess manufacturing, assembly, technology, and metrology opportunities to develop new robust production solutions
Provide leadership in root cause and corrective action investigations of manufacturing and assembly processes
Offer subject matter expertise in interpretation of optical requirements, sensitivity analysis, aberrations theory, and performance measurements
Optical manufacturing expertise in this position will be required to support all other engineering and operations functions
Travel may be required to support product development and cost estimating initiatives
You have an engineering or physics degree with specialty in optics and/or photonics applications
Working knowledge of opto-mechanical processes – lens measurement, alignment, bonding, etc.
In depth understanding of optical metrology – profilometers, interferometers, MTF, etc.
Experience in optical system modelling in Matlab, Zemax, or equivalents
Passion for application of Lean & continuous improvement philosophies for assembly line design and manufacturing execution
Ability to effectively prioritize and work well under pressure in a dynamic environment
Demonstrate initiative & proactive characteristics including the ability to work with limited supervision
Good interpersonal skills and enjoys working on a team
Ability to work collaboratively, open to sharing ideas and listening to others, open to new ways to drive improvements
Ability to resolve conflicts and problems quickly and effectively while maintaining independence and an ethical behavior
Candidate should have an acute attention to detail for estimate development and review
Experience establishing a basis of estimate, estimating project cost and effort, defining risks and opportunities, preparing technical proposals. Financial analysis experience an asset.
You have strong communication and presentation skills with the capacity to work well with people at all levels of the organization
