The Engine Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management team (DPHM) is dedicated to providing end to end solutions to improve aircraft reliability while reducing operating costs. Today’s flight monitoring systems are designed to automatically record critical flight parameters and provide visibility to events or exceedances. This helps the operator to make informed decisions about preventive maintenance, thereby reducing unscheduled maintenance, lowering operating costs, and increasing aircraft availability. DPHM’s advanced diagnostic solutions provides true value-added benefits that enable the operator to determine the best time to undertake maintenance on the engine and airframe. This can minimize costs by allowing for component repair instead of replacement and maximize engine time on wing. This position description is focused on the airborne equipment development segment of the DPHM portfolio.
Essential Duties/Tasks of Position:
Lead electronic hardware design & certification efforts for a variety of aircraft and engine applications • Provide systems level leadership for hardware and software partitioning and integration requirements • Develop airborne product specifications, technical drawings, environmental qualification test plans and engineering reports in accordance with DO160G standards. • Oversee Planning and Development of certification packages for submittal to FAA/EASA and other aviation authorities • Manage development of test and inspection procedures for production and shipment of hardware products during and after final assembly • Develop assembly and repair procedures for airborne hardware products • Provide technical support for fielded systems • Coordinate with Software Engineers in the development and automated testing of embedded applications software • Coordinate with external contract resources to complete detailed engineering analysis and/or product certification or reliability testing • Manage internal and external resources to create and change 3D CAD drawings and models of production products • Issue technical documentation and conduct airborne product reviews compliant with internal P&WC General Equipment Specifications and Standards • Continuously improve products through design enhancements and software upgrades through change management tools • Analyze and report on capital equipment requirements to support hardware development projects • Identify and propose new product concepts and enhancements as well as manage component obsolescence risks for fielded products • Support manufacturing and field installation requirements and lead efforts for continuous process improvements • Lead updates to internal procedures to retain compliance with FAA, ISO and AS requirements • Lead continuous product cost optimization initiatives
Qualification Requirements Education:
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering Experience: Minimum 8 years’ experience in product development of electronic LRUs for aerospace applications
The following are minimum required skills for this position: • Detailed, hands-on design experience in analog measurement, audio frequency, high-speed digital circuits and microprocessor core development • Experience with embedded microcontrollers, high performance microprocessors and peripheral electronics design; including timing analysis and signal integrity • Understanding of printed circuit board layout and thermal management techniques • Strong technical writing skills and good communication and interpersonal skills • Familiarity with mechanical design of electronic enclosures with an understanding of thermal and mechanical compliance of devices installed in aircraft • Ability to identify and manage external contract resources to perform activities that are required to support the electronic product compliance with aircraft operational requirements • Hands-on Experience with schematic capture software • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD modeling software applications • Ability to perform electronic circuit performance, thermal, and reliability analyses • Ability to perform root-cause and corrective action process on electronic assemblies • Extensive experience with electronic test and measurement equipment and familiarity with DO160G environmental qualification standards • Familiarity with fixture design for formal acceptance test procedures for airborne product production and repair • Ability to develop and maintain accurate project plans and budgets • Familiarity with AS-9100D quality system development and maintenance • Experience in managing electronic component obsolescence reviews
