Raytheon Technologies Weather Radar Systems Engineer (ROC MSS) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Raytheon Technologies is seeking a Systems Engineer to join a team of 55 scientists, meteorologists, engineers and IT experts to provide infrastructure engineering design, development, implementation, production, installation, and integration support to the National Weather Service (NWS) Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC) in support of 159 Doppler weather radars and 4 wind profiler radars that provide data critical for tornado and severe weather warnings across the Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Azores, and Korea.

This position will be located in Norman, Oklahoma. Relocation is not authorized.

This position is part of the the Special Projects Team of the ROC’s Engineering Branch, which supports the NOAA Wind Profiler Network.

As a System Engineer, you will be involved in every phase of the hardware and software life-cycle across business and technical applications. You will also provide facility support, program management, and quality assurance. This position involves customer touch points within the NWS and FAA.

Qualifications you must have:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Earth Science or related STEM degree.

  • 4+ years' experience in providing system design and requirements analysis for complex computer systems

  • Experience with Linux (RHEL) operating system is required

  • Experience managing engineering projects and leading ad-hoc project teams through the Engineering Change Process (ECP) is required

  • Knowledge of computer hardware, systems software, and computer systems architecture and integration is required

  • Experience working on weather radars or other RF systems is desired

  • Experience in feasibility, cost/benefit, and alternatives analysis and documentation in the development of modifications and large-scale product improvement programs.

  • Experience with RedHat Linux LANs

    Desired/Preferred Skills:

  • UNIX/ Linux shell scripting

  • Knowledge/experience on radar systems and equipment

  • A background in pulse Doppler radar, radar meteorology, RF propagation, signal processing, and communications theory and integration


  • Must be a US Citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
