The Lead Systems Engineer will join our Synthetic Training Environment (STE) Live Training System (LTS) team providing leadership and technical direction and guidance for the STE LTS team. This position is based in Indianapolis, IN . The Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for all phases of systems product development including concept development, program pursuit and capture, requirements capture and analysis, system architecture design, requirements allocation and traceability, design reviews, system / subsystem integration, system verification and validation, and life cycle product support. The Lead Systems Engineer must leverage multiple skill sets in areas such as Defense training systems, embedded computing and networking, Cloud Computing, GPS Technology, Virtual/Augmented Reality Technology, and will report directly to the STE Chief Engineer. The Lead Systems Engineer should have strong communication and team building skills and embrace modern development processes and techniques that improve product quality and team productivity. The ability to listen with empathy and seek to understand the perspective of others is one of the keys to success within our Agile teams. Typical Duties

The Lead Systems Engineer will provide leadership technical direction and guidance for the STE LTS engineering team. The Lead Systems Engineer will work directly with Business Development and Program Management to develop customer relationships and help identify their current and future needs. The Lead Systems Engineer will coordinate with the STE Chief Engineer to identify new product development concepts and plans and to resolve technical issues. The Lead Systems Engineer will prepare for and help lead both internal and customer design reviews. The Lead Systems Engineer mentors less experienced engineers and contributes to maturing and improving our processes and products.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 8 years related experience in systems, software, or hardware engineering

  • Experience with development, integration and test of military avionics systems and platforms, architectures, capabilities, customers, and/or missions

  • Experience providing leadership, technical direction, and guidance to multi-discipline teams

  • Experience applying technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to solve problems.

  • Experience working the front end of the business, creating/reviewing RFPs, SOWs, BOEs, technical volumes, proposals, cost, and schedule estimates

  • Demonstrated sound ethical values built upon trust, respect, accountability, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering methods, tools, and languages

  • Experience with Agile or DevOps software development

  • Experience with product design (electrical & mechanical), transitioning products from development to production, and obsolescence management.

  • Experience with embedded networking and embedded systems Defense training systems, embedded computing and networking, Cloud Computing, GPS Technology, Virtual/Augmented Reality Technology and Cybersecurity technologies

  • Knowledge and experience working with military and civil regulatory and certification requirements for GPS technologies

  • Experience with US Army programs/customers

  • Experience with DoD open systems architecture and protocols (FACE, SOSA, MOSA, etc.)

  • Experience presenting at trade shows, industry conferences and proposal orals

  • Experience using DOORS, CAMEO, or other requirements management and system architecture tools

  • Experience mentoring engineers of all grade levels

  • Current/active DoD Secret level or higher clearance

Required Education (including Major):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program
