Rockwell Collins Canada is a world leader in wireless communications networking, with products such as high-data-rate HF/VHF/UHF modems and the Self Configuring Relay Network (SCRN) for ad-hoc wireless networks. We are developing the next generation of HF radios that support significant throughput improvements and ad-hoc networking features, as well as developing Software Defined Radio networking waveforms for customers around the world. We also develop a suite of modeling tools for wireless communications networks, and contribute the development of a VHF radio for the Canadian Army.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Engineering, this position is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling responsibilities for a team of engineers, ensuring successful overall performance of the department (including technical, cost, schedule, design to cost, product integrity and manufacturability).

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leads a small team of engineers, managing individual contributing technical talent, actively addressing employee performance and development issues.

  • Responsible for tactical execution of day to day operations. Leverages advanced principles, theories, and concepts of complex technical subjects to provide direction for employees. Assigns technical resources to work assignments and approves work scope for assigned portion of overall program.

  • Ensures compliance to development processes and work requirements.

  • May oversee development work performed by third party partners or subcontract labor.

  • Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success.

  • Primary point of contact for Technical Project and Program Management on technical or engineering resource issue resolution. May also serve as primary engineering focal point to the customer.

The ideal candidate possesses the following skills & attributes:

  • Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization, spoken and written.

  • Builds strong internal and external networks.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment in making people and business decisions.

  • Has full knowledge of the software life cycle including definition, requirement analysis and design, implementation, validation and support.

  • With a strong technical background, is able to direct work and mentor people in the following areas:

  • Software development in in both Windows and Linux;

  • C/C++ and real-time embedded computer architectures;

  • Integrated Development Environments;

  • Version Control Systems ; and

  • Object Oriented programming, networking and wireless communication protocols, communications concepts.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in applicable engineering or science field and 8 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance Degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is Required

  • CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP - must be eligible for a Government of Canada security clearance up to the Secret level and access to controlled goods.
