Raytheon Technologies Subject Matter Expert Sr Mechanical Materials Engineer I or II (Multi Grade) in Portsmouth, Rhode Island
The Materials Engineering department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a broad knowledge base of materials or a Material Science Engineer with Mechanical Engineering experience to fill a position in the Portsmouth, RI facility.
The ideal candidate needs to have a solid understanding of mechanics of materials and will be the primary individual responsible for conducting mechanical testing.
The role includes operation of an Instron uniaxial load frame, fixture/tooling design, sample preparation and other types of mechanical and materials testing/analyses to support developmental design activities, failure analysis activities, and production support.
Candidate must be able to manage a wide variety of tasks within schedule and budget restraints.
Critical thinking is required for analysis and interpretation of data, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for solving a variety of challenging and complex technical problems. This position requires someone who is a self-starter, ambitious, hands-on, and able to network effectively to develop active working relationships with multiple Engineering and Operations departments with whom they interface. They must have the ability to work on several analyses in parallel and collaborate with other members of the department who have expertise in materials, chemistry and electronics.
NOTE: This position can be Salary Grade G08 (Senior Multi-Disciplined Engineer I) or Salary Grade G09 (Sr. Multi-Disciplined Engineer II) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
Required Experience, Skills and Education:
For, Sr. Multi-Disciplined Engineer I - Four (4) years of experience in an engineering / manufacturing technology environment.
For, Sr.
Multi-Disciplined Engineer II- Six (6) years of experience in experience in an engineering / manufacturing technology environment.
Experience operating mechanical testing equipment and/or mechanical engineering concepts (stress/strain, mechanisms, fixtures, etc.)
Experience with material characterizations and/or testing of metals, plastics, composites, elastomers, adhesives, etc
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related Science or Engineering field
U.S. Citizenship is required
Desired Experience, Skills and Education:
Proficient with data acquisition systems for collection of test data
Modeling and drawing creation using PTC Creo
Understanding and familiarity of how mechanical testing data is utilized for stress analysis
Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Understanding of metal fabrication methods
Understanding of corrosion principles
Understanding of engineering alloys
Ability to read engineering drawings
Understanding of GD&T principles
Familiarity with component data sheets and drawings
Detail-oriented and great organizational skills
Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Hands-on, mechanically-inclined problem solver
Ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines
Excellent technical writing skills to generate reports and specifications
Excellent presentation skills and ability to effectively communicate to and with all levels of the organization – both technical and non-technical personnel
Demonstrate ability to perform testing & analysis with minimal direction, troubleshoot and communicate findings to Engineers and team members
General working knowledge of laboratory operations
Possess knowledge in the materials engineering aspects of military, government and industry specifications and standards related to materials and processes
Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines.
