This position manages a team of all levels of professionals in Engineering (approximately 8-12 direct reports), establishes objectives and guidelines for engineering processes, product specifications and other areas of mechanical engineering. Serve as primary technical mentor for mechanical designs and related analysis performed by subordinates. Coordinates the preparation of project plans, project proposals and will perform as senior engineer in an individual contributor role in selected projects. Provides functional management to employees and directs project staff recruitment. This role is based out of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Primary Responsibilities:
Manage the activities of a team of engineers that will improve the efficiency and productivity of the organization’s systems and components.
Uses highly developed technical knowledge and project management skills for project planning, budget management, and methodology development to ensure that projects are completed on-time, within budget and according to defined goals.
Coordinates the preparation of business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets, and the financial terms and conditions of contracts to ensure that progress and performance can be tracked.
Establishes design concepts, process, product specifications, and other components impacting mechanical engineering.
Directs recruitment, placement, and evaluation of engineering project staff and their work products to ensure the effective deployment of talent.
Oversees the functional management of direct reports including but not limited to career development and succession planning to meet the organization’s needs.
Plans project resources, schedule, and execution development of tools, equipment and mechanical systems.
Provides technical guidance and mentorship to subordinates regarding design concepts, technical analysis and specification requirements.
Perform as Senior Engineer in an individual contributor role for complex projects
Engage with Chief Engineers, Scientists and Fellows to understand Business Unit’s portfolio/opportunities and support local Senior Management in strategy development
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR
Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR
In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Ability to manage programs or parts of the program including successfully managing small group of engineers under your technical guidance.
Experience in creating career development programs to ensure skills and performance of employees meet the organization’s current and future needs.
English fluency (verbal and written)
Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills including risk management, project scheduling and staffing or related
Advanced degree in mechanical engineering or related
10+ years of experience
Previous experience working as a technical lead and training employees/ mentoring.
Previous experience working in the aerospace industry with emphasis in Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Fluid Dynamics, FEA Analysis, etc.
Post-graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering with experience in R&D and Product Development
Experience as project leader managing scope, schedule and budget for engineering activities
Knowledge in CAD modeling and drawing, GD&T stack-ups, tolerance analysis and implementation of mechanical or electrical design concepts
