The Mission Systems organization within Collins Aerospace is poised to seize upon market growth positions in the Strategic Command, Control, and Communication (C3) program space. We are seeking industry experts with multi-role C3, Surveillance, Situational Awareness, multi-enclave Mission Systems expertise.

This position is for a Principal Systems Engineer that will assist with pursuit order capture, proposal writing and presentation, modeling and originating requirements development for large-scale Systems of Systems designs. This role will involve frequent interaction with Senior and Executive leadership within Collins Aerospace, as well as with industry partners and end customers.

Expertise is sought specifically in DoD based Airborne Mission Systems platforms. A breadth of experience with operator station design, mission CONOPS, communication networks (over-the-air and on-the-wire), cyber security aspects, Information Assurance, and experience with overall aircraft performance considerations is desired.

Qualified candidates must have an active DoD security clearance, with a preference for active Top Secret.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leverages industry expertise to lead large-scale Systems of Systems proposal and design definition for Airborne mission platforms

  • Actively engages with pursuit teams (Program Management, Business Development, Engineering) for white papers, RFIs, RFQs and RFPs

  • Leads/authors technical proposal preparation and presentation

  • Serves as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal, and customer reviews

  • Leads design and evaluation of Systems solutions involving networking, processing, communication (including RF characteristics and antenna selection), security enclaves, and operator station considerations

  • Performs program level technical risk identification and mitigation strategies

  • Recommends investment or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, or systems to improve the quality and competitiveness of Collins product solutions

  • Mentors pursuit and execution teams in formal methods, tools and processes involved in Systems development and documentation efforts

  • Travels up to 10 to 20%

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Proven expertise with military based Airborne Mission Systems platforms

  • Demonstrated high proficiency with multiple years of experience in systems engineering, including in open systems architectures

  • Significant experience in lead roles in technical proposal writing

  • Demonstrated experience in Make/Buy decision-making and trade study analysis and recommendations

  • Ability to create multi-year technical roadmaps

  • Experience in translating customer desires into executable requirements

  • Broad experience with multiple communications systems across the RF spectrum (VLF/LF through EHF)

  • High proficiency with understanding and implementing advanced networking concepts

  • Experience with applied human factors engineering practices to plan crew systems interfaces for UI/UX, translating customer requirements into hardware and software solutions

  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering methods and design tools (Enterprise Architect, Cameo, or equivalent)

  • Recent experience and expertise in operation and use of requirements management tools (DOORS, JAMA, or equivalent)

  • Experience in training and mentoring less experienced leaders and engineers

  • Strong understanding of change management processes and tools

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance (Top Secret preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and 7 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with special mission aircraft systems (including, but not limited to) the C-130J Super Hercules, P-8 Poseidon, E-2D Hawkeye, E-3 Sentry, E-4B NAOC, E-6B Mercury

  • Practical experience with DODAF architecture views and demonstrable proficiency with the framework

  • Practical experience and ability with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and DevSecOps in context to design considerations of solutions such as MLS

  • Strong understanding of Agile development processes

  • Experience running complex projects that include teams from multiple locations

  • Many years of experience with communication systems design or information processing design that includes simulation and analysis

  • Experience and proficiency with project performance measurement, tracking methods, and tools

  • Active DoD Top Secret preferred
