A talented operations support engineer is needed on Raytheon’s EED-2 (EOSDIS Evolution and Development) team which supports NASA in its mission to provide scientists and other users access to data from NASA’s Earth science missions.
As a member of the EED-2 team, engineers will build and support innovative tools allowing scientists and students alike to discover, transform, update and improve the quality of earth science data in the pursuit of solving a wide range of environmental and socio-economic issues. Specifically, this opening is for an operations support engineer on EED-2’s Harmony and OPeNDAP teams.
These teams are focused on harmonizing access to multiple customer data archives in the cloud and allowing users to transform data to meet their specific needs. Both teams are established and high performing agile team working in the Scaled Agile Framework methodology.
Job responsibilities include:
operational configuration to ensure the data services meet user needs while remaining within allocated cloud cost constraints
Monitoring of the system’s health and status and detection and reporting of degraded service events and anomalies
Track, troubleshoot, correct, and document any system issues found and returning the systems back to service
Collection of key metrics such as user demand, service performance, load and cloud operating costs
Reporting of operations status and key metrics to management, customer, and other stakeholders during regularly scheduled reviews
Create, update, and maintain documentation required to capture and communicate operations, processes, policies and procedures
Provide support in integration and regression testing and release deployment as part of DevOps process pipeline
Providing help desk support to address user inquiries/issues related to data services
Required Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills:
Bachelor degree and 6 years if related experience
4 or more years of operational engineering or development experience in the cloud-hosted systems preferably in the area of earth science data systems
Extensive experience working and debugging enterprise scale systems, preferably running in Amazon Web Services
Extensive experience collecting and analyzing operations metrics using COTS or custom-developed tools such as Kibana, Uptrends and Cloud Tamer
Experience with CICD pipelines such as Bamboo
Proficiency in Linux shell scripting, Python, and Terraform
Experience supporting system integration and regression testing
Desired Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills:
Experience with earth science data formats such as NetCDF, HDF, GeoTIFF, zarr
Experience with OPeNDAP
Experience with Jupyter notebooks
Experience using Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence, Stash/Bitbucket, Bamboo)
Experience in agile development methodology and practices
-B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
U.S. citizenship is required.
